Catching Stud Pelagic Fish from Florida Pier

Ойын-сауық

In the spring time while fishing the pier there are many opportunities to sight-cast or sight-fish some pelagic pier fish. I throw lures such as diamond jigs, topwater lures, or large swimming plugs like a rapala X-rap with the hope of enticing one of these hard fighting pier fish. This video features multiple species and some awesome pier fishing action. Watch me try to sight cast to some HUGE Jack Crevalle and even land a pier kingfish.

The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight kzread.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

As my favorite fishing KZreadr that I know won’t be bias on reel suggestions, what spinning reel would you recommend in the 5000-6000 class(based on diawa/penn sizing) the plan is dock fishing for snook and tarpon in key largo, and then drifting livebait off the bridges in the keys. My price point is 500$ cap, so the obvious answer of a van stall or Stella is out of the picture. I’ve had my eye on either a Saragossa, the saltist or the tsunami SaltX. Any and all input would be appreciated

If you can’t find a Phenix, a 8ft heavy or XH Teramar or Star Rod is a staple choice. Many pier rats where Ryan is fishing use custom built 9fters with fiberglass or blende blanks, but those will set you back ~500 or so.

@@RyanMorie lol No, I make tape for the 3M Corp but I hammer the fish every chance I get. Although I live in Mass. I'm from Connecticut and have been fishing saltwater since the 70s. I was a huge Van Staal fiend for a long time but like you, never liked the drag and for that much money?! The drag should be smooth as silk! It's an $850. plus reel! As a high(est)-end Saltwater reel, how is that not the first thing they would engineer to perfection, even before making it waterproof? and the slow crank! and the crappy customer service?! WTF am I paying for besides being waterproof, which really isn't the end all of reel tech, it's just nice not having to clean and service it so much. Myself? I'd rather have a smooth-er drag. It's jerky and inconsistent and nobody seems to care or complain! (expect your spot-on review!) I'm not saying trash the Van Staals and go buy ZeeBaaS reels, I'm saying the NEXT time you're shopping for a waterproof reel, check out ZeeBaaS. They actually run about $150. more than a comparable Van Staal but once you've put yourself on the elevator to spring $850. for a fishing reel, if we're being honest? What's another $150. at that point to get EXACTLY what we expected from Van Staal but never got? Great videos, keep up the good work and Tight Lines!
