    It's because packrats are not true rats. They are only distant cousins to Norwegian rats. In fact, packrats are more closely related to hamsters. Interestingly, both have hoarding behavior.

    a rat found its way under my hottub this winter and used it as a bathroom. Ummm the smell of warm rat wiz while I relax in the hottub... Good old Victor to the rescue. Love the channel Shawn.

    I had an old Victor snap-trap with an extra sensitive trigger that never failed to clobber rats. I affectionately name it “Ol’ Snappy”. Loved that trap.🥰

    The pack rat looked like it wanted to take the trap home to use as living room furniture. It only went inside when it couldn't carry the trap away.

    I love pack rats! They make me laugh. They make these giant nests and are oblivious to the fact that other woodland creatures are moving in with them. I saw one tidying up his lil' apartment complex, he was shocked to see a snail in the walkway. He picked it up and placed it outside 2x in the course of cleaning before he got angry at it and gave it a couple little bites to get him on his way. They've been known to have frogs and other bizarre companions in their giant nests.

    Excellent! I used to raise gerbils and that pack rat looked like a large version of a gerbil!e The invasive rats look horrible compared to the pack rat!

    Hey Shawn! Great videos as always! Idea: would wrapping the inner walls of the spikes prevent mice from escaping? Attach at the inner top to keep the screen from sliding down, as well as towards the bottom of the spikes to keep it in place?

    Hey Shawn, I always enjoy your videos. I recently started using pieces of suet blocks in Victor Quick Kill mousetraps in the garage, and I've been getting mice almost every night for weeks (I was rarely getting mice with just peanut butter). Maybe you could try this out and compare its effectiveness to other kinds of bait.

    He is SO cute. Ya doesn't look hugely rat like. More like some little forest creature. Makes me miss my pet rat. He was a wild rat I raised from 1 week old.

    So, I wonder if a version with twice the "pillar wires" would work better, as theat would mean the spacing between the spikes would be halfed? Then again, you could still have stragglers managing to acrobat their way out of the large hole in the middle of the spikes? But if the hole would be smaller it may not catch rats anymore?

    So if you put Hoops in the middle like what are on the outside it would make the space where the mice got out smaller and they probably wouldn't be able to get out.

    It looks to me that if you were to solder wires between the existing ones, the space would be small enough to hold the mice. Not a large job and it would make the trap useful for all vermin!

    The solder idea is a good idea but along with that you might a 2 inch wide plexiglass sheet doughnut shaped addition to the inside upper section to keep mice from climbing then reaching back to grab the wires at the entrance.
