Catcher Stances

In this video we talk about the three different catcher stances; the sign giving stance, primary stance, and secondary stance. There is also some tips on situational secondary stances, something that should help you more advanced catchers.

    So for my primary stance I’m thinking of something like Gary Sanchez, the one knee. I’m just not flexible enough to do the “stereotypical” primary stance.

    The half kneeling stance is a great option for catchers! But I’d still work on my flexibility if I were you. The more flexible you are the more options you have for positioning.

    @@jedidr4918 strengthen your core, one of the pieces of equipment we use is called the Mobility Stick. That has been a part of our mobility program

    90/90 hip stretch is a great one for hips... we've started using Stick Mobility in our facility have seen some good results with mobility in rotation.

    I’m guessing you’re talking about the secondary stance. First, you can do wall squats at home. Put your back against a wall and pretend you are sitting in a chair but you just have to hold yourself up, do it for as long as you can and build up how long you can do it. Second, in a game or practice setting wait as long as you can to get set up in the secondary stance.

    Time ya getting up while catching your bullbens! It pitcher from the strech pretend to be base runner and get up in that stance just a hair before you would take off to steal the base on same pitchers you catching! This also helps to have body in "motion to drop back down for wild fastball instead of being stationary and tense up in the secondary for so long!
