I love how you can see, upon rewatching, how Gabriel plotted out exactly how he'd defeat the Forgotten One. He watched how his opponent's power had to be committed to breaking the seal, leaving him vulnerable, but when called back, the power took a long time to return and the Forgotten One was completely vulnerable the entire time. He put it all together but waited until the seal was fully broken, so he could escape when the deed was done. Absolutely brilliant.

I am still bit confused by how much power did demon had in him from start to end. Was his power level same from start to end, or was it split between the seals. It seems to be latter tho, but i am not sure.

This game should be called "the requiem of Gabriel Belmont". It's really sad to see how hard Gabriel fights the evil, only to be forced to become the greatest monster of all.

@VIKTOR There is absolutely no way Gabriel would have let the Forgotten One escape. Also, it's not the question of turning into a vampire, he had consumed far too many dark energy to remain human, even without vampirism. He would have still turned into the Prince of Darkness.

This is one of the best stories in a video game. The amount of hardship this man went through, past the point of no return and even past that. How far is a man willing to go? Theology in this game is underrated and they do not make stories this good anymore. I don't think LOS 2 comes close to how great this game is.

Agreed, I bought this game at full price back on the ps3, you can imagine my surprise when I discovered the “additional DLC” was the actual final level/boss and ending all for a low low price of (at the time) $39. Yeah, no thanks.

I played LOS 2 first so I made the logical assumption that his turn happened at or near the end of the first game. I didn't even learn about the DLCs until long after I beat both games

That monologue is awesome!

Technically Gabriel only took a portion of the Forgotten One's power, but enough for it to see he was outmatched. That portion was used to break the seals.

I think it’s safe to assume it was the majority of the forgotten one’s power. I’m guessing somewhere around 60 to 75 percent. Little bummed out that we never get to see Gabriel really use all that energy he got. We get some idea of what he’s capable of at the start of Lords of Shadow 2, but I’m sure that even when fully upgraded with all skills and collectables Gabriel still isn’t as strong as he once was by the end. All we really have to go on for just how much power he got was in the cutscenes. If Gabriel is seen by the forgotten one at full strength: instant death (and after stealing that same power he’s actually able to slice the monster in half with just a swipe of his hand).

@@nevadaaguilar2062 I assume the energy of the forgotten one isn’t just a consumable, once it incorporated, in combination with God’s immortality, and the dragon blood, I’m pretty sure Gabriel completely assimilated it and became able to regenerate it to 100%, just like the forgotten one most likely could.

@@nevadaaguilar2062 no for the game, action, entertainment purposes they had to show a reduced power of dracula, just for it to be playable of course. Or else the amount of power gabriel gained, he could just one shot every enemy and then how would the game be playable? At least they could show case some of his power in the cut scenes, but that's all we players get. Its like dragon ball super, goku and vegeta are powerful enough to destroy universes but still able to fight on a planet without destroying even a building.

So he defeated the lords of Shadow and didn't become dracula until killing laura. That's one crazy story for a vampire

He became Dracula after getting the powers of the forgotten one, before that he was a vampire.. not a regular vampire due Laura was pretty powerful and Gabriel heritage that power, but at the end of the story he became the most powerful being, even Satan didnt wanted to fight him

@@benolr64 both are powers forged by Gabriel himself after becoming Dracula, the energy he stole from The Forgotten One is simply raw, magical power. Once he became a vampire, all the warmth and love he felt for his loved ones died with them, and from this void he created the void sword. After thinking about all that has happened to him, he realized him, and his loved one were just pawns in God’s game, and from the hatred he felt towards him, he forged the Chaos Claws. Both of these powers are fueled by the magical energy of both The Forgotten One, and the blood of the dragon that courses through Dracula’s veins, or at least that’s how I understood it.

This is why I Love LOS and hate LOS 2. Here is a journey that makes sense and you feel how powerful Gabriel becomes, but then when you play LOS 2, you need p.e. a specific weapon (chaos claws) + magic+ several hits to destroy a f...ing shield of a f...ing average enemy (brotherhood of light warriors) even at the very start before you loose all your powers, WTF!!!. I love Castlevania and even more LOS because of its darker approach, and then came LOS 2 and shit all over it predecessor. Still I love Robert Carlyle as Gabriel-Dracula he just nailed it.

@@chrisroserva I agree with you for the most part, however even in the end of LOS2 I still think he's still not strong enough, Imagine Dracula surrounding with 20 Golgoth guards and just by a flipping of his hand they're all dead, that is what he should be capable of in the end.... instead we just get a retexture and a bit of a theme change from the first LOS. [and we still can't kill one Golgoth guard.] I learned later that the studio had some internal conflicts which prevented them from making the game to match their expectation which is quite a shame. I love the game still, even though it has its flaws, I still am watching its gameplay, cinematic scenes from time to time.

easily my favorite Castlevania game I mean the story and the characters everything was fantastic and even despite who he would become you cheered for Gabriel because he'd been betrayed and lied too and forced to become the most powerful version of the creatures he'd sworn to destroy and how was he repaid for all his sacrifice he was made a pariah by the very brotherhood who'd sent him on his journey.....I wish to god this would get a remake or remaster for ps4 or 5 because it was so good

As I understand it, the Forgotten One had to drain a significant portion of his energy into the seals to weaken and break them so he could escape. As the final seal broke and the Forgotten One was about to retrieve said energy, Gabriel intercepted and took the Forgotten One's power for himself. That's how I understand it at least, I hope that helps.

I've played all God of War games except accension. Lords of shadow is a more difficult game in my opinion. And the story is better.

tokyomilmil Think of it like this: the Forgotten One took a big slice of his power & used it to open the gate to our world. After he opened the gate, he tried to take back the slice, but Gabriel jumped in front of him & absorbs all the power.

The Seal had the power, in the story the Founding members of the brotherhood sealed the forgotten one using their life energy, that 's why when they died the creature was able to escape, the seal contained the essence of the founding members and the forgotten one combined, that's why he couldn't escaped the dimensional rift, when Gabriel reached the seal he gain all the powers, both from the Founding members of the brotherhood of light and the Forgotten One... that's why not even Satan could opposed to him and so Dracula the Dragon was born.
