Imagine you're in the French resistance during WW2 and Hitler ambushes you with your allies: sure this Hitler has force powers... but he's also wearing a permanent respirator that makes a loud noise every time he breaths in or out. Even if you were surprised and scared of his reputation HOW could you not be thinking "did the ruler of an empire just hold his breath for a minute so he could surprise us?" He basically already had you captured before you ever saw him. He could have just as easily sent a platoon of troops since he knew you would be in this location or at least one squad of elite soliders to be stealthy would make sense. But he personally hid and held his breath just to surprise you with a dramatic reveal. I mean, I wouldn't be terrified I'd be flattered. Bravo! That's show manship!

Very true, but when those 8 seasons happen, but are so outside of your lens of attention that they basically don't exist to you, you get this situation. Not trying to defend Pat and Woolie, but it's pretty clear that neither one has ever expressed any interest in the Clone Wars series and Rebels, so to them, when years later, the first thing they hear from the shows is that Ashoka is now super popular, it would be like if Katz existed, and then by the end of Zeta he basically becomes Ultra Char.

But also for intimidation (the spinning, not the flying, an untrained or young jedi/force user would easily get scared or confused) and the flying is in maybe two episodes, fails once, and is never seen again because the Inquisitors get phased out of the story after that. Also, it's not the sabers making it fly, but the repuslors in the circular handle.

I took it as more directed at those among the fandom that enjoy ahsoka now so much that they will retroactively go back and defend her earliest incarnations. For example, cinemasins did a video on the clone wars movie and I remember very distinctly how many comments there were talking shit about her character in that movie. That video got re-uploaded several years later after a copyright claim and those comments were replaced with complaining about how much shit the video was giving ahsoka and how dare they talk about their waifu like that. Like there was a turnaround, and the fact that she eventually grew into a cool cat does not negate the shittyness and near universal contempt for her character when she debuted. I think that's what Woolie was trying to get at

Clone Wars is so good that it's actively failed by the movies it's based on. The fact that Anakin is so well characterized in Clone Wars becomes shit because of how it ends up in the prequels.

Anakin's characterization in the second clone wars show (the 3D one) sucks. He's meant to be like he is in the movies (and in the original clone wars, gendy's show) , having him be the charismatic yet aloof soldier from clone wars misses the whole point of his struggle against the Order and his whole life as a brainwashed Jedi. And also he has a Padawan but he's totally not a master you guys.

Dark Empire had some interesting aspects to it at least. The Rakghouls are also fleshed out over time with some better writers later in some Old Republic books. I agree the Emperor returning was lazy and stupid compared to the previous stories with Thrawn bringing the remnants of the Empire in a reverse situation. Funny how Disney bankruptcy takes Thrawn and puts him in mediocre to bad Rebels to give it more fan fair or how Palpatine is being brought back now 😂 At least in the EU books which isn't perfect took time before bringing Palpatine back.

@@The5lacker The Thrawn Trilogy was near perfect. That's what we should have seen on the big screen. The problem is the original cast is to old now or dead. Heck they could have retold the story with the new cast while giving them actually development and paying homage proper to the original cast. We didn't get any of that sadly.

The whole "why don't they hold them and move them around with the force telekinetically" thing is actually a thing in universe. It isn't widely used because it requires levels of calm and concentration that are hard to maintain in large scale combat. But it is a fighting style that Jedi masters have

Darth Traya, from Kotor 2 had two styles. One relied on using a single saber normally, but turning it on and off at the right moments during combat to confuse her enemies, that one she used against advanced lightsaber users. Her more commonly used style was her basically standing in position and levitating 3 lightsabers around her to attack and overwhelm narrow minded/easily distracted opponents.

I love the space wizards for children argument. Pat proves his own point wrong, and proves Woolie right, by talking about Anakin killing the younglings vs the sand-people. In 2, Anakin says he murdered children while in 3 he killed younglings. Pat's argument is that they changed the name in 3 because you can't say "killed children" in a kid's movie except in 2, I guess.

It's fine in 2 because they were monsters. Its a very commonly used form of framing. Like how we humanize Finn when he takes off his helmet and explains that he's an orphan/child soldier/slave that we should pity...but *not* the droves of faceless troopers that are explicitly stated to *also* be orphan/child soldier/slaves. It wasn't a baby Rodian, Gungan or Twilek that gets center stage and a line reading before Anakin turns on his saber, its a little, blonde boy.

As someone who never watched the prequels before I watched the clone wars. Ahsoka was such an interesting idea. Apprentice to Darth Vader before he turned is a really cool idea. And lastly Anakin is much less annoying when written and acted by some people competent.

It's post Jedi, pre awakens. And it reminds you of gendy clone wars because it had people from that show and the other clone wars show in the writing staff. Also the mere fact that there are metals that can touch lightsabers without melting, and that lightsaber clashes and fencing is a thing that happens, should totally tell you that lightsabers are not just light and that they do have mass.

@@NeutralGuyDoubleZero how is that worse? People have made lightsaber versions of all sorts of characters. Manga wolverine had lightsaber claws. I've seen Shredder Sith fanart. Replacing instances of normal blades with laser ones isn't any different than the initial choice to make laser katanas in the first place. Literal helicopter sabers, though? It doesn't stand up to elementary school scrutiny and worse yet, it was animated in a super dumb way. It isn't even sold well. Mary Poppins and her Umbrella looks more badass and believable.

Heck I actually liked the first part of The Last Jedi and think all the complaining about bombs in space and arcing lasers is stupid. Nah, bombs can fall in space. Lasers can arc. That's fine. For plasma to generate the kind of force necessary to create lift you'd need to spin them around at the speed of light, give or take a few million mps.

I love how Darth Maul's lightsaber is based from an inquisitor's lightsaber and it cant helicopter because he probably think the concept was dumb Edit: if you are confused the lightsaber he unleashed from Rebels had a broken design eeriely indicating that he fought and killed an inquisitor and took the lightsaber for himself

One story, not sure if it is still canon, was that Maul crafted his double bladed saber when he was sent to kill a Jedi master and was completely outclassed, so he fused two sabers together, and ignited the second when his opponent blocked in the right way to leave him exposed. Double-bladed lightsabers were initially popular amongst the Sith, and as such fell out of use when the Sith went underground. That's why Maul using his in TPM was such a shock to the Jedi. The Inquisitors then took that idea and made it dumb.

Maul predates inquisitors by about 30 years, an d sabrestaves have existed for longer.

Where is Pat getting "lightsabers don't have mass" from? He does realize the blades aren't actually literal light, right? Besides, they're dumb fantasy swords. Everything in Star Wars falls apart when you try to apply science and logic to it. That's why the EU and Wookiepedia are full of absolute nonsense

Tbf it's really dumb how many Clone Wars there is and how Rebels somehow ties in so it's like Clone Wars 2 in a way. There's Clone Wars the movie, Clone Wars the 2D cartoon, Clone Wars the 3D animation and Rebels aka Clone Wars 2. They're all interconnected and share the same name. It's going to confuse people not just Pat Also yeah keep defending the dumb flying lightsabers and how that makes sense. No one cares if it "makes sense" visually it is hilarious and everyone I know can't stop laughing at it. By all means defend the dumb thing

It's important to note that the canon is literally being made as you watch Pat.

It takes place 5 years after RotJ because Mando tells Carl Weathers that Imperial Credits are worthless because of the Empire collapsing in the first episode. Also this statement is damage control for how bad Rise of Skywalker will be and oh good God it will be bad.

Really loving these highlights.

Rebels and Clone Wars have their highs and lows. For Clone Wars its lows were the first 2 seasons while for Rebels, it was the first season. Favorite moments of both: 1. For Clone Wars, the introduction of the Night Sisters and their magic was fun. 2. For Rebels, the use of time travel was really interesting. I feel like one of the few people who still loves Star Wars and accepts that not everything can be perfect. Side Note: In this new era of RedLetterMedia Star Wars memes, I feel like they hate Star Wars less than the people that use their jokes for argumentative purposes.

I think time travel is a plot device as bad as the hyperspace kamikaze crap from TLJ. In the wrong writers' hands it could hurt the franchise and its characters. I think in the long run it will hurt Ahsoka. She should've died in the temple, Filoni made a huge mistake.

Rebels annoys me because outside of the "tarkin fucking everyone up arc" in season 1, i cannot think of a single episode i can say doesnt have some really stupid BS tied to it. Season 2 finale is damn near perfect, except random lightsaber copters. Twin suns for some god forsaken reason needs ezra and chopper except it really doesnt. Rex and the rebels work with some seperatists except there is a fucking baby moral thrown in for no reason. And fucking time travel so Filoni can save his waifu in the finale, as well as random space whales, where it actually has a pretty cool depiction of the Emperor.

Fallen order is the best Grey Jedi stories I’ve seen, because they never say grey Jedi. They’re just a bunch of failures that kinda get by.

Darth Vader sucks when you have Darth Maul destroying society with only a lightsaber and a dream.

To be fair the first series was kinda bad, it get's way better from 2 onward. I think it's greatest strength lies in the ability to pick a specific story arc (like Obi-Wan going deep undercover, Yoda's journey, Ventress and the Nightsisters or Ahsoka going fugitive) and just jump in.

I think the ultimate fridge brilliance when it comes to Star Wars is that for all it's success, failure and continuity shenanigans. Lucas barely got the first movie off ground, and it only really works as a movie thanks to extreme editing. I love A New Hope the best for being a janky corny space opera that bumbled it's way into birthing the biggest sci-fi franchise on Earth.

I was just waiting for the Palpatine's Head discussion to become "do a Dio and put his head on Luke's body."

I always wondered just what Palpatine was trying to accomplish in Return of the Jedi trying to turn Luke, as during that thing/very soon after: - the "entire legion" of Stormtroopers are defeated the Ewoks and the plucky Rebels - the shield generator is destroyed and nobody in the Empire notices - the plucky Rebel fleet manages to outmanuever and chip away at the Imperial fleet, destroying their flagship in the process - THE DEATH STAR IS DESTROYED

You know what's really ironic? Gundam did the "helicopter laser blades" first. More specifically: UC GUNDAM did it first. Supposedly the most realistic of all gundams. So how does Woolie feel now knowing that UC invented "helicopter laser blades" compared to SEED's "bending lasers" gimmick?

Mandalorian very obviously takes place after Return of the Jedi

Super Best Friends Play KotOR is probably the best series I've encountered on KZread so far, so hearing "I've already put plans together to play that" in regards to KotOR II warms my heart.

To give lightsabers their due, they could potentially have weight in the actual metal bits. Also, Woolie, there are many script leaks that actively suggest TROS will not turn it around.

The spinning inquisitor blade is pretty cool when it's not extremely dumb

Pat, lightsaber is just a name. The beam is made of plasma. It has fucking mass. It always has. And Pat, Youngling IS Jedi parlance. Woolie owns you there.

If someone swung a sword at a lightsaber I'd imagine it would flash melt the sword in half and all the momentum would be in the part still being held by the sword wielder like when you swing a stick at something and break the stick. Being able to swing swords at lightsabers in games like KotOR I always just accepted as a gameplay contrivance.

There's a lot of bad Star Wars stuff in Disney's canon and the EU. Personally, I just want things like Grand Admiral Thrawn, Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors' adventures, Mara Jade, and the Yuuzhan Vong to be adapted in future Star Wars movies and shows. You know, the good stuff from the EU. I'll be okay if they change a couple things here and there as long as it's written well.

You know who would make a good protagonist for a show? Kyle Katarn. Oh right, his *massive* story that could have been mined for ideas for years doesn't exist anymore.

There's nothing to apologize for Solo, it was fine. People didn't boycott it because it was a bad movie, but because they were pissed at Last Jedi and wanted Disney to stop.

Oh my God this entire segment had me rolling my eyes so hard I could catch glimpses of the warp Seeing them talking SW is like watching a time bubble to 2012 or someone who has been on stasis since the CW movie came out

It’s not that I have faith that they will, but I do hope just a little that Ep 9 turns it around and makes this new trilogy feel at least somewhat worth it. It’s just really nice with Fallen Order and Mandalorian that the fandom has more positivity now. It even got me to rewatch Clone Wars for the excitement of the last season. I just don’t want to go through another community burn down like with TLJ and Solo.

Turns out if someone just parrots miscellaneous sound bites they've heard from RLM (like Pat does), you don't end up with an internally consistent thought process. Although Rich's statement that Star Wars can do nothing different has always been narrow-minded, and speaks more to his lack of knowledge about other kinds of Star Wars stories than the brand itself.

Been years and Pat's cool and all but man does he still not have any thoughts of his own. Every media opinion he has is still regurgitated from RLM or Jim Sterling.

If someone considers browsing a wiki just as good as experiencing a thing firsthand you can safely dismiss their opinion.

Adding to the Vader stinking like cooked ham due to his parts not being installed properly, there were many things they did with his suit that was shitty. It was all on purpose because Palpatine wanted him not to be able to get strong enough to defeat him. The suit material is made out of cheap, low quality armor that they shined up to make it look nice. All the tech in it is old and out dated, hence the loud breathing noises. They didnt even give his robo body the ability to sit down. They never taught him how to use his chest computer board thing. A computer board that is completely exposed btw. There is literally a button on his chest that turns off his life support, so anyone can press it and he would die if no one presses it again to turn it back on. That Vader was still able to be a badass despite being fucked over so hard is very impressive. Imagine if he had an actual high quality body and life support system?

In The EU, Clones were used in the time of the Galactic Empire, but were put into Special forces groups such as the 501st. (the blue guys specifically called Vader's fist.) In Canon, they all just got retired. Lame. Also In regards to luke fighting vader in Return of the jedi, The EU explained why they were swinging their saber's so heavy, Pat might remember the lightsaber styles in Kotor 2, but the 5th form Djem so, Was designed to imput your physical strength into your attacks. Also makes sense why vader would swing heavy with his lightsaber considering his ridiculous amount of strength due to his cybernetics which made him unstoppable in his time (until he fought ep 6 luke, turns out as soon as Vader met someone who had the same strength and skill as him, he lost.) But in Canon this is left in the air. Because Laziness. Woolie going to play KOTOR 2 IS HYPE AS FAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK BTW If you somehow see this Castle super beast, the EU Canon endings for Kotor 1 was light side ending male and Kotor 2 was Light side ending Female. It's not as lame as you think because Revan and bastilla get married and 300 years later in the SWTOR MMO he gets 2 cool descendants, one of which is the JEDI GRAND MASTER and the over is Kanji from Persona 4. (voiced by Troy baker is what i mean.)

Kyle does at least have that past to work with but yeah they SUPER FUCKED UP with killing Luke so some of that Jedi arc just isn't happening or has to happen different...also probably not happen because he'd effortlessly dismantle the First Order given he was capable of tearing a swath through The Empire AND slay Dark Jedi (not just wannabes either if Jerec and his Council are anything to go by).

BTW people. Mandalorians are not a species or a race. They're a religion that worships survival of the fittest. The planet of Mandalore was actually settled by then specifically because dragons there made it too dangerous for any other civilization to survive there. Those same dragons were later the basis behind the Viper Armor suits
