Casting an Aluminum Bottle Opener from 3D Printed Patterns for the 2019 Openers Open
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Time for the 2019 Openers Open! This is my entry. I printed some stuff, then cast it in aluminum. Enjoy. There's a twist at the end, though, and no, I don't mean twist off bottle caps. The opener I made is pretty standard, modeled in Fusion 360, but I tried printing multiple of them with runners in place, and casting multiple.
There are other people in this challenge, so search for "2019 openers open" or the hashtag #2019openersopen to find their videos.
this was the idea of SWDweeb, find his entry here: • #2019openersopen my op...
Here's the file I used to print the opener. Don't use it, though, it kinda sucks: www.myminifactory.com/object/...

Paul, you haven't failed. Through your channel I found swdweeb, through swdweeb today I found bunches more of awesome KZread makers. Thanks to you both.
Sooo Good. Even the fails are great. So human. Thanks Paul! keep up the awesome work. fair weather and following seas dude.

I agree, Paul. I prefer videos where you are making things and not talking. The lead up to it is good...the science/learning is good...but the actual execution is what I live for!
It's ok you get it next time keep up the good work and putting out videos. Thanks
Metal shrinks a bit so you have to make your pattern slightly oversized. I am sure some work with a file will make the bottle openers work.

Well now that was interesting. Nice entry in SWDweeb collaboration.
Always fun watching your videos... This challenge was really fun, looking forward to making the next one too(whatever it may be) :)

Ting for the win... much respect!! 👊🏾
Lol good video! I liked your idea of tilting the four patterns, I’m going to have to try printing with gates attached soon, I’ve seen Perry do it too, the result looks very neat and accurate, great finish too. Cheers
Hey Paul, love your videos and sense of humor, keep it up! Easy way to add draft in Fusion (in this case) is to do a tapered extrusion of the outer profile of the object. That'll let you input an angle. Then split the model with a splitting plane down the center for your print halves.
wonder if you get better flow intoo the parts if you slant or curve the feedchannels toward the fill-sprue , kinda catch the material while its flowing by through the main channel (the parts did fill up completely so the small holes you made with the welding rod are probably enough ) as for the bottle opener itself , might need to make the angle of the bottom hook a little more steep so it doesnt slip off the edge of the bottlecap we had a guy at work who allways opened his beer with a foldable carpenters ruler , he lined it up beneath the cab holdinmg it with the same hand holding the bottle and banged the other end of the ruler , one day we spend about 2 hours shaking the bottle before putting it back on the table bout 5 minutes before he came in , lets say he got wet and didnt enjoyed a lot of his beer by drinking it , we enjoyed it inmensly though

Great job with the set of 4 openers, they look so nice... nice you had to use the 3D print... good job trying the drink. lol, I had the same issue, all my bottles have twist tops. dollar store riddles are better than kitchen riddles.
A long journey to a well earned drink even if it wasn’t a golden brew 🍻. Cheers Paul🍻👏🏻🤘🏻😆🤘🏻. 👙
You need to print a pouring basin the smoother the pouring basin the better it works for some reason
Paul, I have been worried about them twist tops, that's why my entry has a twist end to it too
Lol. Good one Paul. That's the way it always goes right.

Actually the way to reduce turbulence is to slow the metal into the mold. If you make your gates larger (cumulative) than the runner then you can move more metal into the mold at a slower rate. Ok, I laughed out loud, no really I did when you opened it with the print, I guess it should be expected after your bead roller experiments. :-D They looked good, really good, except for that little...small... tiny... design issue :-D

8:15 this is why calluses are best had at the tip of your fingers, not in your palms, to you can play guitar good, while still being capable to mustering excruciating pain that prevents you from gaining said flaps of skins when opening a bottle.

Since you mention guitar, I have callouses on my fingers from violin, but they arent tough enough for guitar. Less pressure needed to hold down the strings without frets
@ColonelRPG

@@PaulsGarage have you tried the cello? It requires more pressure, is similar, and easier to play, and in my opinion a lot prettier. Also more expensive XD

Seeing Gingery lathe bits on the table, wondering if you care about it anymore. I sure do.
4 at once? Are you planning on going into production? Well I guess they all did cast and you did get the bottle open, but does no one actually drink beer?..Martin

If I'm going to fail, might as well fail 4 times at once! Saves time that way. Pretty happy with how the castings turned out, the makers mark stamp too. Pretty happy with the casting overall, just not my engineering haha
They could be a bicycle quick release with a tad of machining.

17 years old soda? You could probably get drunk off it. I know which 3D file I won't be using to make a bottle opener, if I were to ever actually do such a thing. Oh well, at least we had fun.
