Casting 7.62x39mm Projectiles

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I'm casting some 7.62x39mm projectiles. These are .312 diameter 160gr projectiles. In this video, I show you how I cast, inspect, and weigh them from start to finish. Not all of them will make them cut, but most of them will.

Interesting video if I can suggest a couple things. This is in no way discouraging your work. Actually I think you did a great job and I’m glad to see someone else casting for 7.62x39. 1. Get that mold prepared get a Arkansas stone and run the sprew plate over it till it’s as flat as you can get it. When you begin doing this you will see how warped the lee molds sprew plates are. 2. Wash that whole mold in hot soapy water with a toothbrush scrub the heck out of every single cavity. 3. This is important get a electric hot plate and let that mold get as hot as possible let it sit there for a half hour then take it off and let it cool to room temperature. Do this 3 times what your doing is tempering the mold you won’t get as much warping in the mold as it heats from casting. Do this method with all casting molds. I did it to all my molds and I have some expensive ones. 4. Used the hot plate to pre heat the mold while your lead is melting. Yes I understand people are told to just let it heat up on the top of the pot. That doesn’t work as well as the hot plate method. The whole mold needs to be hot evenly. Heat is your friend in casting if you do this I promise your quality and quantity will be 80 times better. 5. Start power coating your castings you can push them at least 1000 fps faster. There’s videos on KZread about everything I mentioned above. A few channels to consider CW long shot, Viejo bullet casting, Elvis Ammo, all 3 of these channels have improved my casting ability a million times over.

30 minutes of preheating vs 10 minutes of actual pouring to get the mold up to temp? I'll always take the ten minutes, the molds will get hot from the inside out which is what is important the rest will eventually come to temp plus you get the added benefit of practicing and perfecting your casting skills or just throw those ten minutes away for 30 minutes of waiting. Might as well do something while you are doing nothing. A lot of those channels create content for view not necessarily that what they are showing is correct or even the only way. Trust in yourself and develope your own way and you will always be successful.
