From Range Lead to Finished Bullet.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The weather did not allow for any forge melts this week. So I decided to melt some range lead and cast them into some bullets. I used the 7.62x39mm mold for this video. I wanted to show the whole process of melting range lead, to finished Bullet.
The only part of the process I didn't do was loading the final ammunition. This is because I don't currently have the proper Die for this caliber. Once I get that, I can show the loading of bullets into ammunition.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Enjoy the holidays and stay safe. If it's not too much trouble, could you help me get to 1000 Subscribers? I would greatly appreciate that.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. My email address is in my channel description. Also, if you have a burning desire to donate so I can continue producing these videos, you can find that info in the channel description as well.
This video is not intended for children. Anybody who wishes to try anything I do in the video, please make sure to do the proper research to make sure you follow all safety measures and proper procedures.
I release videos every week so make sure to hit the notification bell so you don't miss anything. See you all next week.

Save time 'counting' by weighing. 7000 grains to a pound. Total weight in pounds x 7000 ÷ by bullet weight. Subtract the weight of the container first by zeroing the scale. Angle iron sections with the ends welded make sturdy & cheap ingot molds. 😎 You've inspired me to start casting bullets again.

Try not to touch the bullets after you water quench, I know it’s not easy, but the oils from your skin can prevent a good coating. I soak mine in denatured alcohol overnight then rinse and dry. Powder coating seems to coat better. Works for me anyhow. Thanks for the video

Easy way to test lead hardness is buy a set of staedtler pencils! Test your lead ingots with the different hardness pencils , if it groves the surface the lead is softer than the pencil. BHN 4/5 is a 6b pencil , BHN 14/15 is a HB pencil , BHN 16/18 is a F pencil, BHN 26/28 is a 2h pencil. There is a video on this easy way to test your lead mixing and hardening! I stick to lead hardness HB and F . Depending on my loadings and firearm used. From the U.K. 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇺🇸🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇮🇱💪👍

Just a heads up imperfections to the base of the bullet is the worst place to have them. The moment the bullet leaves the muzzle you want the gas to give it as even a kick as possible, a large enough defect will cause a flier. Most minor imperfections to the ogive or tip are balanced out from the rotation.

Well I haven't quite setup my reloading press yet. I'm almost there. Once I do, I'll make a video on that as well as the test firing off them

Im all about free lead. But im hesitant on range lead. You never know what your getting or how hard or soft your bullets will be

I agree. There are tools to test the harness. For what I'm doing, I'm not too concerned about that.

I WANT to WANT to get into casting but the more I watch the more it just doesn’t seem worth the effort unless maybe you just have a guy getting you all the clean lead and antimony you want for free and all you need to do is pour it in the mould.

It really depends. I personally enjoy finding the lead. Plus I get it for free. There are plenty of places you can purchase lead with antimony already made so you can just cast. I enjoy the whole process, but that's just me. If you decide to get into casting, I would be happy to answer any questions you have. Good luck. 👍

Imperfections on the base of your bullet will affect accuracy! Better on the side so when you size ( if you do ) they are removed or when going down your barrel . 🇺🇸🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇮🇱💪👍
