Filipino Spanish is very regional and contextual and uses American Spanish, European Spanish and African Spanish vocabulary well. And very contextual, dynamic and country and practical in talk and communication.

Very good comparison between the three variants. Mexican Spanish was nourished by numerous Nahuatl words, some of which were later adopted by the whole world, such as chocolate, tomate (tomato), chile (chili), etc.

The fact is that for the most part, these versions are subjective. All three can be uttered in Spain or Latin America

Besides using vosotros, I like the fact that the Filipino spanish pronounces "LL"s as Ly, I think that is something quite unique about Philippines spanish, most pronounces it with a "y" sound whilst parts of Latin America pronounces it with "J" or "Sh" sound. Philippines, as far as I am aware is the only one that pronounces it with "LY" Like Que-sa-dil-yas, Ma-gal-ya-nes, Bom-bil-ya, Pas-til-yas. Etc etc 😊

It's actually a holdover from Old Spanish where it was indeed a palatal lateral approximant /ʎ/ pronounced "elye" Parts of rural Northern Spain and the Andes Mountains still pronounce LL that way.

Argentinian Castilian, for example, sounds a bit different. The"S" sound sounds like s, not like "th" sound. Could be in this video we hear Spain's version of Castilian dialect.

A lot of Philippine Spanish speakers could either use Ceceo (pronouncing S, C, Z as Th as in theif like Castilian Spanish) or more commonly a rare thing called Distínction where S is still pronounced as S however C and Z are pronounced as Th. Take note however distíntion is not always perfect for example words like Negocio may be pronounced like Negoshyo or Negosyo instead of Negothyo

We already force Filipinos to learn the colonizers language, English. The model of the education system is a direct copy/paste of a colonizer…The US Despite the negative light of the Spanish in the Philippines, “The Philippines” wouldn’t have become “The Philippines” without having been colonized by España. It would still be various island-kingdoms waiting to conquer each other. Although I think there’s pride in the language Filipino (and the regional dialects), Spanish is very much still a strong part of the Filipino culture. It shows up in our language, names, foods, dances, strong family ties etc. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Countries in Latin America were also colonized by España, speak Spanish, and still have traces of indigenous Influence…..just like the P.I Nice to see Filipino Spanish, one of the many languages/dialects spoken in the Philippines, represented.

@@jfrd-pw4hk From 1899 all the way up to the 1930's, When the Americans took the Philippines from Spain. English was forced into Filipinos by the Americans in an effort to erased the Spanish influences in the country. But they never fully succeded. Filipinos resisted the Anglicization/Americanization of the country by Speaking and promoting Spanish until WW2 happen. Where a large part of the Spanish educated and Spanish speaking Filipino classes were wipe out during the war. As a result the English language started to gain more popularity and importance after the war due to the dwindling number of educated class Filipinos, They simply don't have a choice. So tell me, How is that "voluntary" boi? Lol 🤣 But despite that, Fortunately, A large part of our Hispanic heritage still remains and have survived. Unfortunately, The same thing could not be said of the Spanish language however.

Philippine Spanish is a Spanish use in the South Philippines.

@@luckneh5330 My late grandmother didn't even teach us Spanish, she was Spanish Mestiza from Bicol (Naga), and fluent in Spanish, same with her siblings. So nobody is forcing anybody. Spanish is a beautiful language...it will overtake English sooner, so better learn Spanish for practicality.

That's the Tagalog spelling convention. In Bicolano for example, we don't use 'k'. We instead use, 'q' and 'c'.

Here's a very common misconception when you view post-colonial nations like The Philippines and say, Mexico, Peru, etc. The collective general identity of these nations are shaped BOTH by the indigenous culture AND the colonial culture. In the case of The Philippines, it is fundamentally Hispanic-Asian. Not just hispanic, and not just asian. This is notwithstanding the fact that there exist our distinct moro brothers and sisters, lumads, aetas, etc. Just look at Mexico, embracing their culture based on historical facts and not politicizing everything and turning culture into a black and white or good vs evil. It's such a narrow-minded way of thinking. I am a proponent of the re-teaching of Filipino Spanish in our schools. Because it is a Filipino language like Kapampangan or Tagalog. Moreso, in my opinion usage of Spanish doesn't disrespect our ethnolinguistic diversity by favoring tagalog as the basis for Filipino. Spanish (same with english except that we have historical and cultural relations with Spanish) on the other hand is neutral. As it was the fieat lingua franca before the invented Filipino and English. The most probable case is to teaxh the three languages.

Im Mexican. That Mexican Spanish accent sounds acted and exaggerated. It seems like it was trying to sound like the northern accent with a bit of Hollywood stereotype. In order to get a full Mexican standard Spanish, try using someone from central Mexico instead next time please.

That's the Spanish variant and accent of Spanish speakers in the Philippines before the domination of Tagalog and English.

It is time to bring back Spanish as one of the official languages in the Philippines and here are the concrete steps on how should we bring Spanish back to the Philippines: 1.) Amend the 1987 Constitution to reinstate the official language status of Spanish and permit 100% foreign equity ownership restrictions of all kinds of domestic businesses and private lands. 2.) Make Spanish one of the core subjects and mediums of instruction from kindergarten until college. 3.) Encourage Iberians and Latinos to come to the Philippines and teach Filipinos how to speak Spanish in public and private schools. 4.) Compel mass media companies to produce TV, radio, print, and social media content in Spanish. 5.) Incentivize parents to make their children native speakers of Spanish by inculcating them with Christian values like reading and memorizing Spanish biblical verses from the Reina-Valera bible.

Are you secretly a spanish colonizer who travelled into the future? 😂😂 All jokes aside, while I think learning new languages can be very beneficial, I don't think it's a practical desicion to make it mandatory for filipinos to learn spanish in this modern day. Why would we need to learn spanish? It's just not very relevant to our country these days. We already have filipino, tagalog and hundreds of native languages in the Philippines, as well as English. Besides, we already have issues such as low reading comprehension and poor education in the Philippines...and you want to add another language they must learn at school? 😅 Nah I think we should focus more on improving our current education system, especially for those in poverty, than forcing kids to learn our colonizers' language.
