It's only small, but big enough for what I want to do.

Nice Vic, give it a go, can't really go wrong, what the worst that could happen, your gold explodes 😂all good, you can always re-melt it again to that 1 ounce mega button. Cheers Pete

Hopefully, there will be no explosion. Will start off with a small amount of gold, then get a bit more adventurous. Lots to learn first.

Make sure you season it first. Heat it slowly before use. even in the oven get moisture out. I have only done large scale smelting in gold rooms, so not sure about the small items you have. Moisture is you enemy though an try keep every thing in the crucibles. and boil overs will destroy the furnace linings.. Most of all have fun.

Thanks for the information, I will try a smaller amount of gold to begin with & see how it performs.

You got that right! Going to get a hebe block to sit it all on from Bunnings. Should be a bit of fun, especially if I start casting . I remember doing at school nearly 40 years ago.

Oooh...It's the call you have to make...what to smelt and what not...I'll do it oneday but I finally decided I'll probably just melt down all the fine gold and 'dirty' or gold with stone in or on it...not worried about a large bar...can always flatten it down to increase the visual size. Once melted I know I'll never see it as it was in the creek when I first found the nugs.
