Caspian: The Hidden Cradle | Wildest Middle East 4/5 | Go Wild

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hidden among remote and forgotten lands, lies the largest landlocked body of water on the planet.
The Caspian Sea was once a part of the open oceans, but when the mighty Caucasus mountains rose up, it became landlocked, creating the perfect refuge for many rare and prehistoric species.
From lush wetlands to vast steppes, snowy mountains to arid deserts, the surrounding landscapes of Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan provide a rich tapestry of terrain, creating many challenges for the creatures which live there.
Life and death hangs in the balance in these extreme environments, where only the toughest animals survive…

Yes. According to historical records there were once Lions in the Middle East, Greece, north Africa, possibly southern Italy; elephants in North Africa and the Middle East. Maybe other species. Kind of sad.

I think I read a few years ago that there was some conservation group that wanted to re-introduce some Siberian Tigers into the Caspian Sea area because they're so genetically close to Caspian Tigers. Not sure if it ever got off the ground.

For me, a Brazilian citizen, this distant region is completely alien. Its immense and intense beauty is undeniable.

Music is too loud drowning out narrator. 👎 Unwanted sound is noise plus it jumps maniacally every few seconds from scene to scene like a TV commercial on steroids. No more "Go Wild'" for me.
