A Fantastic Insight into the Rich Wildlife of Slovakia

Brown bears, wolves, lynx, eagles… where in Europe are these carnivores still regular inhabitants? Where can you find mountainous regions that yet wait to be discovered by mass tourism? Just where is this place where untamed rivers run through endless alluvial forests, where eagles, storks and all kinds of rare flowers thrive? In Slovakia, in the eastern part of Middle Europe, untouched wilderness and an astonishing fauna and flora still exist.
The Slovak Republic - bordering Austria, Hungary, the Ukraine, Poland and the Czech Republic - lies in the heart of the European continent. Slovakia features natural landscapes, mountains, medieval castles and a surprisingly large biodiversity. The film “Wild Slovakia” stops at all the top wildlife spots and habitats of this fairly small country. With 49.000 square kilometers (19.000 square miles), it is only a little bigger than half the size of Scotland.
In Slovakia you can meet the large mammals such as deer, bears and wolves, the large birds of prey such as the Golden eagle, the Imperial eagle and the Common buzzard. But have you ever heard of the Blue slug or the Tatra chamois? Small predators such as the Ant-lion with its deadly trap, playful ground squirrels within the old walls of Spiš Castle and the European bison on the Ukrainian border are just some of the special cast of this film.

Excellent Documentary both in subjects covered, video quality and the pleasing voice of the Narrator. No over population Slovakia, that is why the wildlife is so numerous. This production should have more views then it does.

Excellent content! Thank you! I really appreciate watching something so fascinating and beautiful. I have not traveled the world in this lifetime but I can see it on such an excellent documentary. I had no idea that such a beautiful place was there. I can’t tell you I had a thought of what it might look like because I never ventured that far in my imagination. I knew of the place but not what it actually looks like. Now I know a little through watching this great video. It’s a magical place! ✨💝🌎💝✨

Irritates me that with only 800 bears in that area and each farmer is allowed to kill eighty. Doesn't take long to wipe bears out of an area with those kinds of regulations imo. Edit: no offense intended though. Only stating a personal opinion. Have a good day.

You completely misunderstood what he said in the video. He didn't say ''each farmer can kill 80 bears'', he said Hunters are allowed to kill 80 bears, all hunters combined can kill 80 bears in Slovakia per year, not each individual hunter (hunting in Slovakia is heavily regulated). With a population of 1000 - 1300 (2022), killing 80 bears per year means the number of bears will still keep rising even after killing 80 per year. Population of bears today is 3x higher than it was 20 years ago. People in mountainous areas claim that bears are already overpopulated, you can often see them in residential areas which wasn't the case 20 years ago so many would agree that regulating the population of brown bears is needed. I am all for protecting the wildlife but there are times when certain animal do get overpopulated and this is one of those instances. I think the current number is somewhat sustainable but anything higher than this will become a serious issue

The informations in documentary are old and wrong now. Hunting bears and wolfs is prohibited now in Slovakia. Bears are not overpopulated (except humans), they are extremly clever so instead of searching for food they feed themself at corn fields (in past there wasnt corn fields due to climate) and inhabited areas as bins are opend, so it is easier for them to eat waste. Till local goverment wont place them in cages or fences, bears will come and feed there. Never blame animals, they only use (as human) what is to offer.
