Casio Loopy Review | Ashens

Casio Loopy My Seal Computer! A rare and obscure games console that was never released outside Japan. It has almost no games for it and all the ones that do exist were published by Casio themselves, but it does print stickers!

Okay but imagine unlocking or achieving something in a game and getting a physical sticker for it. That'd be awesome. "Yeah bro I have the 'Dark Soul' sticker".

Yeah, its a neat idea but not a new one. Printable certificates was a 90’s/00’s thing kids games did on PC. I remeber several living books and disney games doing just that

Id have loved that with the gameboy... Pokemon red blue yellow but you had a physical pokedex looking notepad with 151 pages, and when you found a new pokemon you could print the pokedex entry and stick it in your pokedex, or even just print pictures of charizards and stick them to every available surface..

@@Colt45hatchback the game boy did have a printer addon. And a camera, and a sonar for finding fish. The game boy printer wasn't in color, but why would it be? I don't think they were stickers either. Oh, sorry Ashen(s) COLOUR. Are you happy I added a "u" to the word color? I'm so tolerant of different cultures that I'm willing to spell like an idiot (an American idiot. In UK I would be spelling like a champion bee-wrangler. Like I was Nicholas Cage and I had bees all over my head. That's how I spell)

I have a Hello Kitty thermal printer which enables me to print out my own stickers from my phone. I now have the coveted Bloodborne 3 achievement, that I earned playing the PS7 version in the future. But do you think that gets me laid?!? The sticker, no. The printer, yes. Nobody needs a sticker for an achievement for a console that only 8 people own. You're already a mega-Chad for owning the stupid console, printing out cheevo stickers for that console drops you back into the weirdo category. All your friends are earning Dark Souls cheevos (digital, TBH) while you bust out your coveted sticker cheevos for a game that nobody heard of. Besides, do you really want to pay $100 more for the PS5 just because they slapped a stupid crappy printer inside? A printer that will only accept $70 ink cartridges made by Sony elves, which hold 10ml of ink and dry out prematurely due to the heat and air flow of the APU\fan? No, that's a terrible idea. Look at the Game Boy printer \ fish finder sonar if you want an idea for a useless peripheral that maybe could have printed out stupid sticker cheevos. Side note: why a printer for a portable console, and no printers for normal consoles? Because gamers don't want printers. Nobody gets laid due to stickers. It's the Hello Kitty thermal printer that is the pussy magnet. I have to beat the women off with sticks. Small, fragile sticks. I'm not a monster.

Holy shit my sister actually had this when we were kids. Was not expecting to see it on this channel :D Bow-Wow Puppy Love Story is actually pretty fun. No joke, it's a cute little RPG with story elements not too serious but still isn't afraid to get real at times, especially the final dungeon where your friends sacrifice themselves one by one to let you continue to the final boss (they're all fine at the end but holy shit it's a seriously darker tone than what the rest of the game is like).

To be completely fair and honest, the graphics look really nice. The hardware of the 32x could do a lot of nice looking 2D sprite art. Shame it wasn't really utilized properly past a few notable examples like Knuckles' Chaotix.

bobsauce100 Yeah, the sprite art is nice, especially the animation in Puppy Love Story, but by the time the Loopy came out, the Saturn, which had superior 2D capabilities, was already on the Japanese market. Then again, I'm sure the average sticker enthusiast didn't care about that.

It also doesn't help anything in the Loopy's favor that the Japanese economy was undergoing a major recession at the time and that families weren't gonna spend the equivalent of hundreds of dollars on a fancy sticker printer.

For context, the "printing stickers" thing ended up being a fad/trend in Japan among young girls called purikura which now take photos of you and print the pic. The Loopy was capable of that as well but came out a bit before the purikura craze, making it a trendsetter in that area. So yes, that's exactly how you appeal to young japanese girls (and young western girls too as I personally loved stickers as a kid).

Video game hardware reviews have to be my favorite types of Ashens videos, especially for the more obscure ones like this. Maybe someday he can take a look at something like the Virtual Boy or the 3DO. Or maybe the Gizmondo, if only so he can tell the story of how a botched promotional event for the handheld ended up leading to the discovery that the CEO of the company that made the Gizmondo had ties to *the Swedish Mafia.*

It's probably very unlikely that you will read this, Stuart, but I hope this gets to you somehow. I've watched your videos for a long time and genuinely enjoyed your take on the mundane and your certain type of dark wit that sits so well on my funny bone. I just wanted to take a moment to say I can really tell the level of work that went into the production of this video and I hope that you continue to put as much effort into your future videos as you did this one. Regardless, I'll most likely continue enjoying your entertainment. Thanks for what you do, man.

I started out thinking "Well, I bet some weeaboo types would buy it these days". Near the end, I found myself actually kind of wanting one of these. I honestly don't know why, as I'm not especially into anime stuffs and even as a kid was never really fond of stickers. Not quite sure how to feel about being a grown man wanting a failed Japanese sticker-printing console marketed towards young girls...

Because the Singularity is more powerful than the Shld Prtble AND it supports most Shield games out of the box. However some will require root to access. Thankfully though, JXD themselves offer ways to root the Singularity and to access the Shield Hub to use both Geforce Now and NVIDIA's official Game-stream, PC game streaming.

Definitely, but the stickers are a bit of a huge selling point. I mean, I have Photoshop and a tablet and a proper printer and blank sticker A4 sheets at home, but I still want this thing xD Some of the "PC collection" minigames look quite fun too. Whatever marketing research they did, it's working o_o Kid me would have gone absolutely nuts with this. The name Loopy might be justified ^^

SsnakeBite 'Print Club' (purikura) was popular with girls. You'd go to a photobooth, take pictures, edit them in the booth, and print them out on stickers. This was probably just to cash in on the trend in the domestic market. Obviously these aren't photos though, but the process is similar, and the addon helps. *EDIT: It's possible the internal editing function was designed coincidentally with the appearance of the first actual purikura machine, but culturally stickers, photos, and customization were already a fad.

SsnakeBite Yes, I would most definitely prefer a proper console as a girl/woman. Which is why I have always had PlayStations. However, if they had come out with this Loopy console, and just made it into a sticker design and printing machine, dropping the pretense that it's a game console, I might have been interested. I enjoy doing artistic stuff, and that could be fun. As far as a game console though, no it wouldn't be something that I would find interesting.
