[CASIO G-SHOCK SMARTWATCH REVIEW]
Did you know that one of the most famous watch brands in the world owes its existence to an accident? Nearly four decades ago, Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe dropped and shattered a treasured timepiece passed down from his father. He was so affected by this, the story goes, that he decided to make a watch so durable it couldn’t be broken by dropping it. In 1983, after building two hundred prototypes, Ibe’s team released the first Casio G-SHOCK … and in the thirty-eight years since, these robust wristwatches have ringed the wrists of special forces operators, Air Force pilots … even astronauts.
It took until 2021 for Casio to merge that legacy of durability with a feature set complete enough to be called a smartwatch, and the result is the Casio GSW-H1000 review device that’s the focus of this video. Under other circumstances this watch would represent a stellar starting point for a new chapter in G-Shock history. But in watches more so than most things, it really is “all in the timing” … and sadly, there’s never been a worse time to build or to buy a Google-powered smartwatch.

And enjoy them! No wonder if you sometimes stress a bit about video publishing times when you always make these masterpieces! Your videos are always one of the best among tech videos. But a word or two about the watch too: as a boy I owned some Casio watches in the 1980’s. They really wouldn’t break. Even in use of wild kid like I used to be. The only reason to get new one was the looks. I just wanted new one although the old one was still working. I bet they are still working somewhere. I’ve lost them all. I also had a watch that was also calculator. It had rubber buttons for every number and other function under display. I can’t remember if it was Casio or what.

Been wearing it for a week now. I love mine. But, I've given up on trying to keep up with the latest and greatest smartwatch tech. I just want a watch first, smartwatch second. I do wish they'd gone with updated silicon and better battery life, tho I do like the timepiece only function. I also have an Omega Speedy for my mechanical fix, or whenever I need to dress things up a bit. If you're someone who cares about paying for stuff with your watch or storing music (I always have my phone on me anyways), then this may not be for you. But, if you appreciate timepieces over smart functions, then you may also love this one.

Great video. Im a bit torn between one of these new or a as new, but used GPR B1000 Rangeman. I think I've just gone off the smart watch a bit after seeing this video. I really don't understand why they've discontinued the GPR B1000 Rangeman. It makes no sense. I'm not a G Shock collector. In face I haven't worn a watch since about 93. I just love what the Rangeman can do & I like the look of it.

I bought a G-shock in my teenage years I think in '94 and touted 7 years of battery life. But as you said it lasted 10. I think I might get a battery replacement for it since retro is cool again and it's not as over the top as newer models.

my dad bought me a g shock in 2012 back when i was in year 10. The only time i had to replace the battery was 2 weeks ago. I still use it for work and gym. these watches are solid.

I've owned my GX56 BB for 5 years now it's still a solid watch. Wore it everyday and it's seen everything from water, mud, sand and even maple syrup. Case is pretty beat up but the face has no scratches. I'll continue using this watch until the strap breaks

I keep being tempted by smartwatches and never pulling the trigger. While price, battery life, etc., have been issues for me the biggest is simultaneous paring to multiple phones. It's a niche demand likely mostly limited to those of us who deal with a second mobile for on-call at work but with so many BT headsets handling it I keep holding out hope.

Do you know if connecting this via USB makes it also transfer data? I am looking for a cool watch to try and port Asteroid OS to - this would be an amazing candidate.

Can you use the touch screen under water? Can it have a battery replacement in years to come? How accurate is the altimeter vs none gps g shocks? Do you know if the gps is always on like a phone but not tracking your distance? Does the map display footpath? Can you buy a new charger if it breaks? mud proof? Can you use the gps without having a phone with you?

Another great video. Even though I’m deeply submerged into the Apple ecosystem, I really enjoy watching news of other OS’s and form factors. Every time I see an Android powered watch, I’m envious because while the Apple Watch is amazing in so many ways, being a man of a “certain age”, I can’t read the damned thing and long for a radar scope sized monstrosity like the one in your review, but with IOS. I do with that as part of these reviews you’d mention what functions would and would not work with an iPhone in case I wanted to dip my toe into the other side.
