That's the best way. I'll wear whatever I like the look of, from an OKTIME bauhaus that cost about £1.40 new, to a couple of Panerais.

Same. I put my AE1200 in an SKXMOD case and strap which adds pop and feel, recommended. Kranio design cases look equally good and the options for modding these seem to be growing. :)

I had to pick up this model for the gym. Just what I have been looking for. Picked it for 29 bucks all in from Ebay. Couldn't find it for $22 but for $7 more delivered to my door in a couple of days I'm ok with it. Best to you and the family Jody. Keep up the great work!

Great review as always. I bought a 1200 for me and one is a Father's Day gift for my father-in-law. We both love it. The referees stopwatch is pretty useless to me so I think I'll stick with my 1200, especially as I believe it's the most charming of the bunch with its nuclear command center world map and radar like analog face.

Jody, I got the best Casio WS1600 of them all, I swapped its resin case and band with the case and metal band of the AE-1200W. Loved it!

my current favorite is the W800. it has absolutely everything you could need. and its a just a couple MM bigger than the f91. i have 2 and i wear them around the house all the time.

This case size/family is definitely my favourite Casio. Great compromise between a G-Shock & the retro line of watches.

This is the perfect watch in my view. Everything a digital watch should be. Superb Legibility, world time features, great stop watch features, more than adequate water resistance, excellent backlight, excellent battery life, and a cool 80s retro look at a down right affordable price. I will definitely be giving this watch the steel case treatment.

Casio Royale all the way! I love the little world map, and world time functions, they are great for travelling. And of course the (loose) connection with James Bond 😜

I picked up the black and green one and I love it. It's like the tri-clops but slightly easier to read day/date and the seconds tracking looks cooler IMO. My only complaint is why did they not give a hard plastic corner in the upper left? They already stylized the plastic in other places for this face, so it's odd to me they leave that black screen in the upper left instead of covering it.

Good vid. I do wish I liked digital watches more than I do. I have three G Shocks and the metallic 1200 but I almost never wear them. I have one G Shock with the reverse/blackout display that I wear when helping my father-in-law with potential hunting stuff at night but that's about it. I have a coworker that always used to wear the little $15-ish analog Casio and I have him an all black 1200 but since he never uses any functions other than the time, I suppose the slightly larger display of this one would probably serve him slightly better. Maybe I'll grab one of these for him.

Got the Royale, this is a worthy addition to the range.

Just ordered the blue one and the black one. One for me, one for my friend. Haven't choose which one. I love my ae1300, I hope this one will be a banger too.

My casios are outdoorsy - my old AMW-705D-1AV Hunting Timer - just picked up a WS1300H-1AV moon/tide 22 US bucks!

Looking forward to more options in that case. Whoever's in charge of the recent model, definitely needs a raise.

Love the look, love the dial layout BUT I've got an AE1300 and the stopwatch and timer always got on my t®TS. pity really I love the Casio Royale case shape and the graphical layout on this looks blinking cool

I always preferred the AE-1300 over the AE-1200 because of all the interval functions. The only grumble was those next to useless digital dials, I much prefer the display layout of the WS1600. I think this has great potential for moding since since as you say it accepts the mod kits for the 1200 and 1300. good review cheers

The AE-1300 is actually my favourite, in part because of those dials. I guess it is my nostalgia for Y2K digital dials 😂

Jody, You must have seen nearly every affordable watch on the planet. I’m looking for a cheap digital that has the following functionality (Timex Ironman watches used to do this but have now stopped). 1. A Timer that can be set, down to the minute (or second), from 1-60 minutes. I only really need 1-10 min. 2. When the timer hits 00:00 the stop-watch starts. 3. The stop-watch continues to count up until at least 23:59:59. This is for yacht racing where a 10 min gun is fired before a start, and ‘race time’ then needs to be recorded. Ironman used to do: Countdown/stop; Countdown/repeat (useful for the gym); and Countdown/count-up. …but they dropped the Countdown/count-up. Thanks

In Germany the watch costs 40€ plus shipping. Quite alot, considering that I paid only 30€ for the (superior) Royale.

I recently sold all my Casios including a gw9400 Rangeman.☹️ Soon realised it wasn't such a good move and I'm back up to three g-shocks again which have been getting more wrist time than my automatics over the last month.

I love these. I'm going to buy all 3 and mod one of them.

Never been a huge fan of digital watches, but picked ab a 5610 at the end of last year, after I bought the 2100 and added my 5000U later in April.. yeah I guess I'm going down the Casio rabbit hole right now 😅

even if you already have a 1200 or 1300 this is still a good buy for a beater at $22. Would love to see some mods for this one too

Love another Casio cannot have too many! Just one thing please please, please can you get a wooden toothpick or a piece of peg wood when your doing your pointing things out bits. Makes me nervous. That acrylic crystal seems somehow drawn to your spring bar tool.

What a fine review of an outstanding value for the money watch. The comparison of the three similar Casio models was great, for those of us who would debate over which was beat for our particular circumstances.

I have a AE1200 with the same black and gold SKXMOD case and bracelet. Thinking of getting a 1600 and swapping them over as cant see the day/date with my old eyes any more! But here in the UK the AE1600 is nearly £50 if you can find one at all now!

Upper display a homage to the old Casio TS1200, unfortunately without the temp sensor breath mint. Miss that watch, might pick one of these up, it's close enough

That box is much nicer than the one my last Seiko 5 came in; I'm pretty sure it cut me. I wish all of the lcd looked like that awesome color on the second track at the top. It's not for me but, the interval timer is something I don't remember seeing before. I used to run a lot and that would have been handy.

Nice review and I really like the look of that new model. Unfortunately, when it comes to the price of watches, I live in Sweden. Here that is a $50-60 watch. A Duro will set you back around $100 here.

Jody, look into the Casio mtp-300 or mtp-305. They’re both moon phase type watches. Hard to find in the US.

Is there a metal case variant of this or the Royale? Also, I don't have either of these but do have a similarly priced AE1500. Would you consider reviewing that one?

If they wanted to update the 1200, the could have made the entire face a display with larger digits for time in the middle and removing the unnecessary animations at the top. And maybe added display for a second time zone. That would have made a real.difference.

I have two AE-1000W's both are 10 year batteries and still running just fine.... the rubber straps don't rot out so far it does say WR 100M on front with 10bar resistance..... anyway super affordable from Walmart here in U.S. when purchased ..... Amazon price for WS1600 showing at $30 What do we do with all these watches that are affordable and don't wear out ?

MAYBE this will be the 1st digital watch that i keep
