Fascinating to finally get the interviews the SAG AGRA strike delayed. Casey McQuiston's new, one step removed perspective now is refreshing, and hope augers well for the sequel. This is clearly going to be something more than fan service, but in response to the effect RWARB has had on the lives of so many people, as well as it's position as an instant classic.

I can see that there are many cherished stories and confidences given as to how RWARB has affected - and in some cases even saved - people's lives, and although I suspect they will never tell, this is why the team is picking up the baton again to run with it. TZP has recently done an interview where he mentions the film even had huge viewing figures in countries when homosexuality is illegal on pain of imprisonment or even death, and that is such an affecting and monumental fact to get your head round. So huge admiration to everyone going back to create under the weight of such pressure and expectation.

I'm terrified of a sequel because in order for it to have any drama, bad things have to happen to these characters. At least I'm hoping for another happy ending. But I would love to see creation of a RW&RB "universe" where we see Amy's story (with Jonathan), or any of the other characters, with Alex and Henry in the background, helping us track the separate plot lines. Would love to even see Miguel's story. Did he know the full extent of what he was doing when he outed them? Does he regret it? How did was his crush on Alex?

Making a sequel is always risky. Because there is already an expectation from the fans. But they have repeatedly said that they will make a sequel when they have the right story. And they also said that they don't want to destroy what they built with the first part. And the same team is working on the sequel as in the first part. This is somewhat reassuring. The story can be taken in several directions. So it's open to question. But I think (this is just my opinion) that the extent to which an openly gay prince is accepted, and the effect of his relationship with Henry on Alex's political career, could perhaps be a source of conflict. Maybe Miguel could get more space in the sequel, he could be the main villain. Because he's an interesting character anyway. Especially since his character is not in the book. I would also like to see more of the supporting characters. Of course, when the film opens, it focuses more on the main characters.

@@mrsfangirl Making a movie based on a book is also risky and yes, I think they exceeded everyone's expectations. In rethinking this, I wish the sequel will be the two of them in the same boat, working together. I would hate to see a story where one is pitted against the other, such as one of them cheating. On the other hand, they will do what they think best and all I can do is cross my fingers. And I will pay attention to the buzz that precedes it, and in the most severe case, not watch that movie - i.e, the equivalent of closing my eyes and sticking my fingers in my ears.

Of course, they set the bar high with the first part. But a lot can still be gleaned from this story. And we really don't even know what the sequel will be about.
