I have watched 11 times! Loved them both. Best movie ever !!!

When we credit Nick and Taylor, we also definitely have to credit Matthew for a fantastic job. The movie would not have been possible without them at all.

His direction is great and the visual is great. But most of all, Nicholas and Taylor are so amazing as actors and characters that we are starving for more

In so many scenes, it isn't just the beloved dialog but the changes in expression that flit across the characters' faces, that relay so much. Like Henry's joke about Alex being a mouthful - he gives a deadpan response, then looks down shyly, and then looks back. Or the mixture of enjoyment of being fussed over by Alex at the New Year's Eve's party and then the growing pain as he begins to think he mistook Alex's attention and the pain that even if he was right, he couldn't respond. The look Alex gives as he watches Henry's talking to the sick child in the hospital, that for me says exactly the changes coming over Alex.

This man is a natural treasure. I have, no kidding, watched the movie more than 20 times at this point! I just love all the little things we got and the great direction with the texts and the long shots. and OMG maybe the best sex scene I've seen in a romcom

I really liked how Matthew directed many of the scenes between Alex and Henry, especially the intimate scenes. The shots are often long, with clever blocking and minimal music, allowing the actors’ emotions and chemistry to shine right through.

Love Matthew's personality, he's so earth landed guy and delightful to watch the passion he put into this project. I couldn't ask for a better person to direct this movie, you can tell he's one of us, he's a fan of this story and his version of it is equally beautiful as the Casey's book version 🥰 RW&RB is a treasure for us queers and everyone out there who want to enjoy a great love story, great written, performed and directed! 🏳️‍🌈❤️🤍💙

Between Casey and Matthew they have so much talent that I know the sequel would be a BOMB!!!!!

Lovely interview! Bloody hell though!!! All this filmed in 9 weeks...???! TBH, that is impressive. I still have a couple of mixed feelings about the movie but it has some gems in it and when Nick and Taylor are allowed to shine their scenes are pure gold...

Now we all want all the versions 😂

I am so obsessed with this movie and I am an almost 69 year old grandmother of 3. I am almost embarrassed to admit that I have streamed the movie at least a dozen times. But please don’t do a sequel respectfully. it will ruin it for me. I just want to remember it as “they live happily ever after.

The movie is so great. I love the chemistry between Nick and Taylor and I love all the little details in the movie. This is for me the best love movie. I read the book after watching the movie. They changed a lot and I wished the movie has more scenes but the movie is so good and I could not stop to watch it.

​@@vnse725it was an assembly, it is just for the director, i am not an expert but i think the assembly means all the scenes in different takes even before editing but on the other hand Lopez stated that they had in fact 2 hours 7 minutes. So at least 2-3 scenes which we didnt see yet

So is he telling the truth that no more footage left ? I really want more of Taylor and Nick!!

In a different interview, he did claim there was enough unused footage to create a whole different version of the movie.

Some of my most favorite movies like Wizard of Oz and It's a Wonderful Life did only so-so when first released. It took a generation or more, and constant exposure before people recognized the once-in-a-lifetime masterpieces that they were. I'm not alone in realizing this movie is that category from first-viewing. And well after the fact, fans were crazed to get any artifact from Oz, any costume (or shoes), and bit of alternate footage, but by the time this demand arose, it was often too late. I hope you treat your creation NOW in like fashion. Alternate takes, behind the scenes footage, etc., just anything! My other favorite movies often bring me to tears of happiness, and I return to watch them again and again, but months apart. Apparently I'm not alone in watching this movie several times each day, sometimes the whole thing, sometimes just the most treasured bits. (I joke that I might need to go to RWRB Anonymous at some future point, if my passion ever becomes an obsession.)

In other interview he talked about much longer version of polo match scene. I really want that

So why is Michael allowed to give interviews and not the actors? Is it because he’s not a member of SAG-AFTRA? I totally support all the writers and actors but I’m dying to see more interviews with Nick & Taylor once the strike is over! ✨💛✨. Also, great interview!

Pressure should be entirely on the studios to accede to the actors' and writers' very reasonable demands. The actors did interviews about working on RWRB before the strike started but we can't expect the actors to do more interviews until the strike is over.

Actually Matthew is giving his interviews as part of his obligations to his director's contract, not his writer's one! It's why he hasn't been talking about the process of adaptation as much. Since DGA leadership acquiesced to a shitty deal, he's still expected to do his directorial promotional work, which is both a blessing for us as fans because we get these interviews, but a curse for the strike because they lose a little bit of leverage

We want more of Taylor and Nicholas movies .

As for the easter eggs, I really like the books that they read: Casey McQuiston's book is already mentioned in this interview. - But in the same scene, Henry is reading »Girl, Woman, Other« by Bernardine Evaristo, and this book is such a tremendously contemporary queer and poc perspective of today's Britain, I think this is a fantastic book to let Henry read! - Another book that we see Henry reading (in the Scene Alex ›stormed the castle‹) is »Howards End« by E.M. Forster. Again, I feel this is great queer reference. - In the beautiful ›Turkey Bellend Scene‹, we see Alex puts his phone down on a book. It is volume 2 »Meeans of Ascent« of the series »The Years of Lyndon Johnson« by Robert A. Caro. - In the ›Waterloo Letters‹ scene, Alex is watching the news on his laptop, and we can spot volume 3 »Master of the Senate« of this series on his night table ;) - Alex seems to be interested in Architecture, as I can spot coffee table books on this subjects, like Bauhaus and G. Bawa in his rooms (both, in D.C. as well as in Austin). Another wonderful easter egg is »Whalers« by William Turner, that we see in the opening of the ›stormed the castle‹ scene. The painting hangs over Harry's bed, so it seems that it is part of the Royal Collection, while it is actually hanging in the MET in NY ;)

But I do wonder what's in this movie that made me rewatch it multiple times...? And I know it's not because it's a gay movie (I'm gay) because I never do this with other queer movies. So idk.... I'm not complaining tho.

For me, it's because watching RWRB gave me positive feelings: warmth, comfort, happiness... that made me keep rewatching it to feel them again and again. This movie didn't make me heartbroken and depressed at the end like some famous gay movies did.

Same, I'd love to know what made this movie in particular crawl inside my brain and refuse to leave. Genuinely can't stop watching and thinking about it, seeking out interviews and BTS content, watching fan-edited shorts... I hadn't even read the book beforehand, so didn't have that same excitement and attachment as book fans going in. I think there was just something so special about the performances, chemistry between Nick and Taylor, and the overall positive messages and representation the film holds (vs the many LGBT+ films/stories which end in violence, death, breakups, depression, etc.)

The movie is a pearl. You shouldn't expand it too much and then ruin it with that. Instead, it's better to tell a new story. There are certainly more than enough books with other characters for new inspiration.

Matthew seems like an adorable person to work with! What a great interview! But what really sticks to me here is, why the hell they double the movie to French and Spanish audience?! I'm aware it is common, but I cannot understand how people still double adult movies, it feels so weird to watch.. and one of the main reasons why, on average, french and spanish are not that good at english as other european countries (portuguese here).. well, offtopic aside, now that I think I've watched enough rwrb content I will move to watch Matthew content 😂

Because they are on strike. Giving interviews would mean crossing the line and would get them blacklisted, meaning they would not be able to get a acting job anymore. So they aren’t promoting their movie with interviews etc. until the strike is over.
