    Ya know John, I’m just glad they still make these old classic back spring folders. With all the new technology and super-steels and the way knives have gone so wild, it’s just cool that Case is still making these old-school pocket knives. They aren’t anywhere near what they were in the 60’s of course, but they’re not even trying to compete with modern knives so in that way, it’s super cool. You’re an old collector like I am, and Case is filling that nitch very well. All those folders you showed are beautiful man. Thanks for the cool content.

    I have never had any luck ordering anything from Walmart. Tractor Supply has acceptable user knives. I have ordered directly from case and have been very pleased with everything that I have purchased. Although there is some blade rub for the most part you got great looking knives. BigE used a mini torch to burn a knife a week or so ago. Fantastic video. Thank you very much for sharing your experience. Have a wonderful day today brother. The lighter color soddy Jr is closer to seadragon

    Just found your channel and subscribed. My feeling is that Case. like every company might not have the same QC that some people are expecting, especially when it comes to people who are new to traditional knives. I also feel some people don't quite understand the concept of Quality Control vs. Profit Margin. Yes, companies want to produce the best possible knife but they have to be able to sell it at a profit to stay in business. The higher the Quality control the higher the price. So many people say crap like they would pay $20 more for a better made knife but few people who say that, would actually do it. And if 97% of your customers are with the price and quality as it is, do you really spend a lot of money trying to make the other 3% happy. And what are the odds that if you spent that money to please the 3% only to lose 3% somewhere else. Trust me, when I say, you're still going to say the knives suck no matter what you say. Blade centering was never a big deal with collectors until the last couple years. I have also seen the old "you can see light between the liners when shine a light behind the knife. Some people will complain if you hang them with a new rope!

    Cool video John. A little blade rub on a Stockman is pretty common. You got some winners for sure. I've only gotten 1 stinker from Case. A delrin sod buster jr. with bad blade wobble. The rivet wasn't set all the way, easy fix though. But I was like 30 knives in before I got a bad one. It happens. Can't wait for the project knife.👍👍🇺🇲

    I’d like to know how to fix the wobble on my delrin sod buster…. It came that way also with cracks on both sides of the center spring pin. Super glue fixed that btw. But it was sitting in the display case for a few years so I got it at the original price and its CV…

    Hey, John. I’ve had two Case knives in hand. Both jig bone sod buster jrs (likely the most simplistic models). Both in store, 2023 models. Both had significant blade alignment issues, with one rubbing the liner. Pretty knives but, for a $90 price tag, I expect better qc. Particularly when I can buy a similar knife, with equal or better quality, for less then half the price. I’m all for made local, and I appreciate that effort, but in supporting local, local has to support the customer with a quality product. I’m concerned enough that I won’t order Case online. I’ll need a physical inspection first, before I drop the bigger purse.

    John, I just picked up 10 new Case knives. A black Sod Buster Jr I am very disappointed with. It feels like the pivot is too tight. I cleaned it out and oiled it, but it opens and closes very jerkily. Will this stop me from buying Case knives? No, but I will check them more carefully at the store.

    Hey John, I am a fan of traditional knives and Case offers the most extensive line out there. But I don't find it acceptable to order a knife and find blade rubbing when I open the box. To me proper blade alignment is an indicator of a well made knife. Just one mans opinion.

  • @JohnKlahr

    @JohnKlahr

    Yes went through them all again as someone claimed they have experienced a high rate of blade play. Let me tell you, out of all the blades you see in the 2nd drawer plus a few more I had laying around, only 4 had any real wiggle to the blade, and it was ever so slight that I feel it’s still within tolerance, Honestly, the only issues I’ve experienced is poorly ground blades especially at the tips , and poor matched scales and bolsters, I had one copperlock that the spring didn’t sit flush when open and I gave it away. 90 % of the case knives I’ve purchased have all been as good as the ones in this video, only needing some oil, and sharpened

    I do worry about purchasing new case knives. Especially certain patterns for example I looked at a couple of medium toothpicks in a store and all of them were not centered properly. Some were even rubbing on one side. I haven’t had issues with sod busters yet but sadly you are taking a risk these days.

    No , I didn’t put them in a vise and set up a dial indicator, but I could tell when I opened and closed the knife that all were tight. Actually it’s not normally a problem with these slip joints the way the back spring works so not sure why you would bring that up, can you show an example of a sod Buster with excessive blade play?

  • @Mdk-bm2zf

    @Mdk-bm2zf

    10 күн бұрын

    @@JohnKlahr It’s incredibly common. I would say 10-15 of the last 20 case knives I’ve purchased have had side to side blade play. As in holding the blade by the blade tip and giving it a slight jiggle side to side (the way Case themselves test for play). The majority you can even hear it. None of which could you feel by opening the blade. I bet one of those sod busters has side to side play.
