the fluid in your chain cases is not hydro and its separate from the hydraulics in the drive/loader system

DOn't know what year your 1840 is but it's an earlier model with split lap restraint arms. Those short shock absorbers help to stabilize the arms and reduce feedback from your hydrastatic pumps.
