I assume he went to jail or prison for a hood long time. He certainly was crafty and convinced many who were needy and vulnerable. The man in London who “smelled a rat” with Hammish was the smart one… skeptical. There are female scammers too, who go after men with money. Maybe a widow or divorcee. People want to believe in a charming man or woman. They are flattered, and maybe feeling lonely. One of you mentioned making a lot of money before making a commitment. Smart idea, but if a single snd young woman got pregnant in a first marriage with her spouse, it’s really important that she gives her child a secure environment and access to mommy. I know we are all different, but most if us don’t have that kind of money. I guess the scammers wouldn’t get interested. Never tell a new man how much you have, especially if you have a lot. That’s like catnip for a scammer!

What stays most with me is the goodness of the one woman whose neighbor paid off her 8 figure mortgage and was willing to await payment when she sold her home. That depth of kindness is wonderful, they were not asked but learned of the dilemma and offered. I feel so bad for men and women wanting no more than to be part of a couple and end up swindled.

What I’ve learned after my own share of mishaps, is you never tell someone specific details about what you want in a partner. I always say, “I know exactly what I want. I’ll allow you to show me the qualities you have as we progress”. That way, they can’t shape themselves into the image of the person you’ve shared with them, they have to present the true qualities they have. Listen twice as much as you talk.

No he's a narcissist. They love themselves, put blame on you if the relationship becomes shaky & they feel that if you are naive enough to trust them, then you deserve the con that they run on you. They leave a wake of financial & emotional devastation. If he was also a psychopath, he would have physically or psychologically tormented or threatened her and/or her son! psychopaths sometimes attempt to cover up these cons with killing the women! She's fortunate that he didn't do that as well!

I am 76, have owned my own companies, traveled the world and been engaged 5 times. I just cannot say "I do!", and they were all good men. The one thing that would have saved these women was in realizing that all the feeling of "love" is nothing more than a chemical reaction we cause in our self. It is the same reaction you get from chocolate, ice cream and many other things. It works when you like something enough to keep repeating it. Same reaction you get with drugs. Your body releases endorphins, dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin, which together, make you feel very happy. So what we call "love" is not real. It is what makes the rest of the relationship that is real. To know you have a "real thing", you have to get past what you believe to be "love", as it simply is not real.

Here came this male gold digging moocher convinced my sister that he was in love with me and wanted to marry me. She arranged my marriage and within 10 years he wiprd me out, my business two homes and other assets devoured by him and his family from India. After three children and 8 more years of abuse I walked away with my children, a broken down vehicle, thousands of dollars in debt, my body too sick to work, no friends nor family who would stand with me i started crawling out of the deep hole. That was 25 years ago now life is great again and I'm a grandma of two absolutely adorable girls who I love as the apples of my eyes. None of my kids talk to him or have seen him since 1998.

I'm not giving over anything or putting my name to anything, especially if it's substantial, that I've not taken some time to look over, so he would not have bothered with me. He'd have left me alone. Because I don't believe in mixing up my finances with anyone, except the bank and I would visit the bank so I know I'm in the right place. He'd be charming and I'd be just as charming in telling him how I operate. I suppose I might also have missed good opportunities in the past because of my oh, so cautious attitude. I'm one of those people who would rather give money, than lend, so might have given him some money if he needed it, which couldn't be much because, as I'd see it, he's not my responsibility; furthermore, I don't like men who 'eye up' women's money, especially if he's not bringing anything liquid to the table, I wonder about their self-respect as a man....sorry...I consider these things. Perhaps too cautious, come to think of it.
