I don't know how many times I've watched your videos and thought..." Oh no Doug...Now you have too little room on your wood for the nose..or the hat."..etc...😧.and by magic .. there still is room..😲..how many times do you have to give up and start over..?🤓..I love your little things and not least your way of painting...😍🤩🎨

I love watching your tutorials and I try to do every one. I am always surprised at how much my carving has progressed from "Wooly Fuzz Balls" to crisp sharp edges. The only thing that really gets my goat is when I'm carving that perfect piece of basswood, matching your cuts as close as possible, and then... I find the piece of hybrid Basswood that was harvested next to Chernobyl and has a vein of Depleted Uranium right in the middle... No stropping, sharpening, cursing or even bloodletting (sometimes unavoidable) will let the knife do its job.... BAH! So it's Begin Again... I'm contemplating soaking the wood in the canal for a month or so. But I'll still be carving everything you put up here! Thanks for the inspiration.

From another era too…not particularly PC but I’m not playing that card. Seems they are “fun” but also maybe time to move on. Also seems like some folks from the era when “hill billies” and “hoboes” were more common terms (like Orientals, N’s and Bums…glad we have moved on to more considerate terms) do these carvings. Back when those labels were commonplace we didn’t cringe or think we were being judgmental or unkind using them (I’m 68…I was there). I’m happy we’ve made a little progress at least. I know this isn’t the place that is looking for deep meanings or social philosophy but I’d do pumpkins but not hobos. I’ll do penguins not hill billies. Small things matter I guess. Just seems it’s time to move on perhaps. JMHO.

@@marca5883 wow folks…sorry. I didn’t mean to take a shot at your HERO. But if you read what I posted it’s aimed at the subjects not the carvers of the subjects. Yes I’m going a bit PC, Woke whatever you choose to call it but there was not a bit of personal attach intended. Jeesh. I love Doug Linker’s content too. I just saying in the spirit of being a bit careful about how we choose subjects maybe some thought cauldron be put into why we carve hoboes (homeless, un-housed, indigent etc) hill billies (Southern? Appalachian? rural/traditional etc) and whatever else has become standard small figure subjects. I see pumpkins, penguins, space aliens and other things. Maybe I’m not steeped in the culture of small figure flat plane carving but it was only a comment to point out what might seem a bit offensive if we step back a second. Peace and daisies folks. Please don’t get out the gallows I’m just making a simple point.
