Peter is so cute for looking out for Carter. I love how Peter takes control of the room and the look of surprise on the surgeon's face when Benton tells everyone to introduce themselves and they all start doing it.

Doctors make the worst patients. I still remember the story of my neurosurgeon breaking his leg. He was a scout leader, and wouldn’t let the boys get help until the camp was over. Meanwhile, he just laid in his tent.

Benton taught a great lesson to that Surgeon, the people on that room were his colleagues, even if they were interns, you should call them by their name, as a way of respect and partnership.

Dammit, I miss them already. :( But rewatching those scenes is always a pleasure... and I absolutely love Benton in this episode. He's doing everything he can to ease Carter's mind...! not to mention we see him smile in this one more than he has the entire series. I just love that we got a more open, more mature Benton who isn't afraid of showing his emotions at the end. Finally a character that's progressed... well, he and Carter. it's the ending note that these two deserve. I love it.

This was season 14, the final season. It’s Carter, he’s Peter’s baby brother. He’s known Carter for a long time, and operated on him when he was stabbed by the psych patient, who also stabbed Lucy Knight killing her. Came and helped Carter get to rehab after that incident, after he moved away. He’ll always have a soft spot for Carter.

I wish Carter could've known it was Doug Ross who basically facilitated his getting the kidney (by convincing Susan Sarandon's character to finally accept that her grandson was gone, and to donate his organs)...maybe then they'd be square over Ross sleeping with Harper, all those years ago!

Now a nurse is in charge of this and she has absolute authority over everyone in the room. Only she, and it usually it is a she, can give permission for the surgery to proceed. Many older surgeons really push back against this though.

As a Scrub tech, this scene is painful. It's an open room-meaning sterile items are open, and Peter doesn't have his mask on. As a surgeon, it's surgery 101, he would know this. The scrub tech is setup next to Carter on the left, there would be no need to have a sterile Mayo stand next to an awake patient who has, not only, not been positioned because he is in supine position not Kraske, but he has not been draped. Carter could easily contaminate the stand, which he nearly does so flailing his arm in a second. There's another tech or assistant sterile just hovering next to Carter. The only reason he would do that is to communicate with Carter, which he clearly doesn't do since he's having a conversation with Peter. The sterile table behind Peter, which is on the other side of the room away from the scrub tech, which wouldn't happen,is contaminated because it's against the all and the circulator just bumped into it. The surgeon walks in with wet arms, having just scrubbed and the scrub tech didn't hand him a sterile towel to dry his hands, thus providing strike through on his sleeves. The sterile scrub tech gowns the doctor from the back. * face palm * Most patients are put under before the surgeon walks in after scrubbing. And this supposed checklist the surgeon is offended by is called a 'Time out' and it is a universal protocol for surgery. It is just that. Everyone stops, identifies the patient, dob, allergies, what procedure and what part of the body they're operating on. This is surgery 101 as well, and the surgeon certainly wouldn't be dumb enough to question Peter on it while the patient, who is also a fellow physician-which are treated with extra sensitivities in the OR, is awake

Surgtech1321 : thirty years ago when I worked as the circulating nurse in the OR, there wasn’t any type of ‘Time Out’. Also back then, at least where I worked, several of the surgical doctors had attitudes that were way worse than here. Imagine having a doctor shove you up against a wall because you didn’t move out of his way fast enough, or throw a scalpel at you, or report you for not remembering to put on his favorite music before he even steps into the OR suite! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Thank goodness for surgical techs, I worked with some great ones.

It’s also funny how they don’t preoxygenate the patients and they’re intubating before paralysis could be performed. Anesthesia is always shown so poorly, even in relatively realistic shows/movies. I’ve seen episodes where they’re doing major abdominal surgery and the patient just has a mask or nasal cannula and no ETT.
