Cars That Rock - Bentley's Spin Around Brooklands

Visiting Brooklands, the world’s first purpose-built racing circuit, Brian explores the legend of Tim Birkin, who famously broke the lap record twice by hitting a top speed of 138 miles per hour. Brian follows in Tim Birkin’s slipstream and takes the Bentley 4.5 litre, the same model raced by Birkin, for a spin around the 30-foot banks of Brooklands.
Cars that Rock with Brian Johnson is a 6-part series which follows the AC/DC frontman and self-confessed petrol head on a journey of discovery into some of Europe’s most iconic car brands.
When he’s not wowing millions of screaming fans in one of the biggest and most important rock bands of all time, AC/DC front man Brian Johnson can normally be found in the seat of a powerful motorcar. Now, he wants to share his passion with the rest of the world as he heads full-speed into his next adventure, delving into the rich histories and remarkable stories of some of Europe’s most iconic car marques, including Mini, Bugatti, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Bentley and Porsche. This is Cars that Rock with Brian Johnson.

He almost fell into tears when he realised he's about to drive one of his dreamcars in that historic place. So happy for him!

Oh, that's just beautiful! Brian Johnson is a great and sophisticated car enthusiast and quite a connoisseur in some aspects related to classic cars. And it wasso nice of this gentleman to allow Brian drive his dream car. I suppose he just felt that Brian is one of these guys who prefer driving the hell out of cars which were born to race. Driving them just as back in the days is a great way to celebrate them!

Britains Yorkshire born First ever F1 world champion Mike Hawthorn Born 10th April 1929 moved to Farnham with his parents when he was 3 years old because his father Leslie wanted to be near to Brooklands, Mike only ever went around the track as a small boy and passenger with Leslie Hawthorn, Mike later wrote that it was incredibly bumpy and scary, he said he had to grab hold of something because he was fearful of been thrown out 🏁🙏

The tittle "Bentley's Spin Around Brooklands" Is a little misleading as there is only a very small section of the track left intact the rest having been dismantled starting in 1951 to make way for a new runway for the aircraft factory. I would add that the Brooklands Motor Museum is a great place to visit and the short section of the race track that is left (seen in this video) can be walked on by visitors and the bends are indeed very very steep.

How do you do this? A crash box would be the first issue. I drive a manual car all the time, but the crash box ?!?! I'd love to do it.

Practice, just practice! You'll need to learn how to double de-clutch for the changes down. I have a 1926 RR Phantom so had to learn!

Can anyone come there and be driven? Were I able to drive myself, I couldn't operate the crash gearbox, despite driving a manual car for my 50 years driving experience.
