Carry LARGE THINGS on Your Bike. There’s a Better Way You Haven’t Heard Of

Фильм және анимация

After some research I found a great way to carry almost anything on my bicycle. This is the Mundo Air Pannier, which helps you carry anything within reason (and even beyond) on your bike.
You can find the Air Pannier on the Mundo Music Gear website: mundomusicgear.co.uk
Check out Paul’s music on his KZread channel: • Spanish Dance by Paul ...
If you have no mounting points on your bike for a rear rack (or you prefer not having a permanent one fitted), check out the Dirza rear rack on Amazon here: amzn.to/3fpkzEm
Check out the Osprey Radial, which is a great bike commuter backpack mentioned in this video here: bit.ly/31paRKb

    I have tried all sorts of panniers for my bike commuting. None of them worked for various reasons. They wobble on bike rack. I often have a rough ride with small jumps and they are just not the best solution for commuting. But the worst part is bumping with my heels on panniers during the upstroke. I have large feet so I just had to quit panniers. Now I ride with a metal basket firmly screwed to my bike rack. I put whatever I need into the basket (usually a backpack) and tie it up to the basket with a belt. That way everything is securely attached, nothing will fall out and easily removed from the basket.

    I realise that this is an old video for you now (2 years), but I still want to thank you for highlighting this great product. I have been trying to find something that would allow me to carry a camera pack that weighs 22lbs and this is more that capable. Thanks very much!

    I am very impressed with that Air Pannier. I have never seen or heard of anything like it before. Very clever and ingenious. And so convenient to carry in a backpack or another pannier for whenever you might unexpectedly need it. I'm glad I watched one more video before I went to bed! Great video.

    Thank you. As I also have recently started cycling long distances. I noticed this very issue with the backpack. This is the first time owning a rear rack but never used one before. This air pannier is exactly what I never knew I've been looking for. Amazing video. Also Paul's music reminds me of Francisco Tarrega. It's soothing to the soul. Thanks again

    Arkel and several other pannier companies make panniers that convert to a backpack when off the bike. They won't carry guitars but not everyone is a musician lol

  • @geerussell

    @geerussell

    I would add that in addition to their convertible "bug" backpack, Arkel has a "haul it" rear pannier that is a variation on the air pannier theme with similar capabilities. Arkel makes good, refined quality products but price is a big consideration: arkel backpack $160 usd; arkel haul it $120 usd; air pannier $43 usd.

    @@paolom.6011 seems pretty reasonably priced. Actually did end up going away and priced it up. Couple of commuter rokstraps were £15. Couple of carabiners were £5 And the cargo net, couldn't find one like it but a cheap bungee based one (which probably wouldn't be as good at supporting a load as the static one they have) was another fiver. So £25 then time to figure out how to actually get it all together to fit on my bike nicely. 15 quid for a shipped finished product to your door seems about right. If I was that tight on cash, like I said I'd just shove my back pack in the pannier.

    @@lmaoroflcopter he is right, it's an absolute rip off. You can get all of these bits together for under £15 from ebay very easily and to fit it on your bike should be as difficult as fitting the actual air pannier on it.

    Thank you, that looks cool! When carrying things on one side of the bike like this, I would be worried about my stability and about my cheap rear pannier rack, because the weight is not evenly distributed and it leans to the side. Should I be worried if I were to carry up to 20 kg for a long distance on one side like this? I was thinking about a way of safely mounting my 65 backpack to a bike to go for a combined cycling and hiking trip.

  • @LuisGustavo-mj7um

    @LuisGustavo-mj7um

    That is a lot of weight in a single place. If your bike is not sufficiently heavy, that weight can even cause a "whelie" when you mount/unmount. I would do that for a short distance (2-5 km), but I will not trust a cheap rack after that. For a weight like that I suggest to attach it transversely over the rack, or distribute it evenly in smaller backpacks on both sides of the rear rack, over the rack and even in the frame. If that is not possible, use a trailer (keep the weight as low as possible). Even a sturdy hand cart with good wheels and axles. You can attach it with adequately sized and knotted ropes to the rear rack and it can be much enjoyable.

  • @matejblaha4659

    @matejblaha4659

    @@LuisGustavo-mj7um Thank you for your reply and suggestion. I managed to attach the backpack to the carrier rack with bungee cords and cycled for about 80 km with it. It went surprisingly well once I managed to secure the bag well so it wouldn't jump around and got used to it. The carrier rack survived unharmed, too. But I think the weight was probably about 15 kg at the beginning though, so it wasn't that heavy. I think wheelie would be caused by any weight placed behind the rear wheel. As long as most of the weight is on top of the rear wheel, this shouldn't be a problem, but having more weight at the back causes the bike to be less stable and harder to control.

    How about the balance if you put school bag with all heavy stuff in it (books, laptop etc)? I’m planning to buy it for my daughter coz she commute to school everyday with heavy backpack. But Since u only put it on the left side of the rear rack, I know she will struggle to balance her bike. Any opinion regarding this?

  • @BikeCommuterHero

    No balance issues. You notice that there's extra weight on the rear tires, but it doesn't pull you sideways. My son uses the AirPannier too with his backpack and he has no issues.

    Panniers loaded on one side (which is what this is) definitely unbalances the bike but it is something you very very quickly compensate for and get used to. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but do a test ride or two before dicing it with traffic.

    There was no need, and perhaps, you have not considered the fact that this is a small volume product, the low-cost mass-produced items you're used to are only possible because of the crazy large market they sell to. Whereas, here, we just have a good guy Paul doing it all probably from his garage.
