So refreshing to hear someone so young appreciate why music of that era was so special. No enhancement, no computer generated music, no auto tune. Just pure talent and many years of practice to hone their craft. When music was real. As soon as you showed that you understood why music was so special back then. I subscribed immediately. Haven't seen any more of your reactions. But that was enough to know you were worth watching. Cheers and congrats lovely lady from Australia.

Karen Carpenter was asked once by a DJ what she most wanted to be remembered for. Her response was : "Just that we were nice people and good musicians." And she never thought she had a good voice. So HUMBLE, SO SWEET!!

She knew she had the best voice anywhere, but you just can't give that as an answer. LOL
I am 58 yers old and I grew up with the Carpenters and I remember when Karen Carpenter sang with Ella Fitzgerald and how I loved that! I miss the good ole days!
Will never be another beautiful voice as hers. !!!!
This song was played at every wedding in the 70s 80s and 90s, in usa, europe and japan.
LOL "she can really sing". You baby girl have had the unique pleasure of hearing the greatest female vocalist of all time. Many have tried to imitate her voice but come up short every time. She penetrates your very soul with her velvety silk tones. She was taken from us way too soon. RIP Karen Carpenter. You're truly missed.
Karen and Richard are brother and sister. Richard is the guy in the white suit next to Karen. She was also a drummer. She is no longer with us, rest in peace.
It does this old man's heart good watching young people discover and enjoy these extraordinary classic artists that we all fell so deeply in love with so many years ago. God bless you young lady.
My Dear Sweet Quay, The song was first used for a Crocker Bank commercial in the late 60's. If you're curious, Crocker Bank merged with Wells Fargo in the 80's. Yes, I'm that old.:) The Carpenters were a brother and sister combo that had their start in the late 60's and put out their first album in 1970. The brother is Richard who was standing next to Karen, the lead singer and main attraction. To me and to many others, she had the voice of an angel. We've Only Just Begun wasn't really a full song when Richard first heard it on the commercial it was made for. He ran into Paul Williams, the author of the song and asked him if there was a whole song. Paul told him yes and they proceeded to write the additional lyrics while Richard arranged the music. It's played at wedding receptions where it has become the newlyweds first dance song. Also, Karen was a drummer and considered herself as a drummer who happens to sing. They've had many hits, Close to You/#1. This song reached #2. Superstar, and Rainy Days and Mondays, and a whole slew of other songs that I recommend you reacting to. Unfortunately, Karen would pass away at the young age of 32 from heart failure due to bout with anorexia nervosa. God Bless
Rainy days and Monday's is another of her songs. Great voice, gentle heart.
Hi Baby girl! Welcome! This song is 50 years old and still relevant today! The Carpenters are a brother and sister duo. Karen is the Voice, and Richard is the music! He is classically trained! Karen is now deceased, but she and Richard were a musical force to be reckoned with back in the day! They sounded like no one else, so you couldn't compare them to anyone else!
Quay, it is lovely to see a young person who appreciates the greatness of the legendary Carpenters. Your earnest and intelligent commentary is appreciated. Karen Carpenter's voice is timeless and incomparable!
Her voice is unique and so heartwarming and not even trying to sing,it just seem to come out beautifully and naturally
It's so good to know that young people your age takes the time to listen to and appreciate music from the 60's and 70's. In my opinion, the music from that era is much better than much of the music that comes out today. The Carpenters were very famous and special in their day. Everyone loved Karen Carpenter. By the way, Richard and Karen Carpenter are brother and sister.
This was the music that ended my cousin's wedding video back in 1982 - and probably many more. The late Karen Carpenter is, for my money, the greatest female American singer. There's nowhere to hide in her delivery. And she could still do this in her original capacity as their drummer!
The voice of an ANGEL, RIP Karen.
The Carpenters made great songs and Karen's voice is beautiful the greatest singer of all time, Karen and Richard Carpenter are sister and brother and are American.

@Will Richards No American.
It’s unthinkable that there are people on the planet who have never heard a Carpenters song.
Her voice....my God.
Karen Carpenter was an amazing talent. Not only a tremendous singer, but she was a damn good drummer, too.
The ultimate wedding song
Like others have mentioned, Richard and Karen Carpenter are brother and sister. They were both multi talented. Karen was the drummer in their first bands. Richard is a critically acclaimed composer. Karen dealt with many issues about herself that she let over shadow her immense talent. She passed away in 1983 at around 30 years of age. I have her Album Voice Of The Heart, which I think that she had just completed prior to her death. I would recommend almost anything in their catalog, but especially the song Superstar.

She passed exactly one month shy of her 33rd Birthday. 😔💔
The smiles on your face warm my heart. I am so glad that you find her work so beautiful...
I grew up with the Carpenters. I was 12 when they hit it big in 1969, She was my 1st celeb. crush. thank you for appreciating my music.
Yes yes yes
It's Karen's contralto voice that can melt your heart. Especially knowing her story and the sad ending.
She and her brother made some great music and she was a great drummer as well!
I think a great way to start off reacting to the carpenters music is by listening to some of these great songs: yesterday once more, only yesterday, masquerade, close to you, hurting each other, rainy days and Mondays… I think you’re going to enjoy.💙💙💙
Well Elvis went to see her sing and told her she had an amazing voice that about says it🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
They were from Downey, California. They also attended CSULB. Very close to where I grew up. She tragically died from an eating disorder at age 32. Such a beautiful voice.
I’ll never forget hearing this song as a kid. It fascinated me immensely. Just like when I heard. Just the Way you are by billy Joel.
Thx! Great reaction! You are smart as well as beautiful to see the unmistakable talent in an exquisite band! The Carpenters are worth delving into! Thx again! -Terry, Canoga Park
Not a man or woman who isn't stopped in their tracks by the video WEVE ONLY JUST BEGUN myself included. Perfect song and performance. Miss CARPENTER. Haaah
Richard, her brother, did actually use some early technology for overdubbing tracks which helped to create that rich sounds. But you're right, they had people playing actual instruments and then Karen and Richard singing extra dubbed tracks. Richard, her brother, was a brilliant musician who knew how to write for Karen's voice. You should listen to some of their other music like their rendition of Don't Cry for Me Argentina.
no one holds a candle to her yet .
Our Wedding song in1972. So perfect seems just about everybody did. Thanks.
I loved this. Lying in bed listening this and your reaction. Thank you.
Karen and Richard were siblings. She died at quite a young age due to cardiac complications of anorexia nervosa. This song was a very popular wedding song.

Yep, It was our wedding song.1972. Still going strong.
Karen Carpenter was a unique and great vocalist, but also a great drummer. LOVE your reactions
Thank you for your comments! They made beautiful music!
I never get tired of listening to Karen Carpenter. Her talented brother Richard played piano, sang backing vocals and arranged their music. Karen is my all time favorite female singer. Try listening to "This Masquerade." It's a jazzy blues kind of song that's very beautiful.
Thank you ❤
I love to see the younger generations appreciate the music we grew up on. I'm happy you really enjoyed this. Karen had a once in a lifetime voice. She was known for recording her songs in one take. She is also an excellent percussionist/drummer. Another difference between then and now is that many of the"artists" are autotuned. Back they they had to be able to SING. Here's a link with Karen singing with Ella Fitzgerald. AWESOME!
Shame today's music doesn't have the beauty and emotion that music had 50 years ago in the 1970s and 1980s. Carpenters will live forever!
That was the era of pure musical talent. They could sing, they could play their instruments, etc. They didn't need auto tune , choreographed dancing, or half naked bodies shaking their booties..
Karen always said she was a drummer first and a singer second, which is crazy with that amazing voice.
The hauntingly beautiful voice of Karen Carpenter. RIP gone to soon.
Just think,In the 70's there was no auto tune!! The guy next to her is her brother! Back then you had to have pure talent to make it!! Now,no!!
It is Kinda like your musical journey..It's only just begun 😉👍 great song fantastic voice . Typical Carpenter reaction 😉🤣🤣👍
Love your observation about the instruments
The amazing voice and the words are for the youth, they were also young than too😊
Carpenter's The definition of beautiful music. Insightful reaction. Take care.
Love your reaction! Catch her on the video.....Karen is the drummer....and it wasnt just instuments. Eric Claptons plane couldn't get him back to LA and Carp[enters gave him a ride in their personal Jet (rolling stone magazine)
Karen’s voice could melt an iceberg.
I have said it before, and I will say it again: That smile of yours is amazing! I am so glad you are still doing reactions!
Karen Carpenter had the purest, most wonderful and powerful singing voices ever. Her death was a huge loss to the entertainment industry.
Love your reactions and smile. You are sincere and natural. Keep up the great work.
cleanest vocals out there
God your so adorable and so cute baby, love your beautiful face and eyes and great smile nice reaction darling
Great reaction. Will watch again.
Everything you said from 3:12 is just straight FACTS.
You are spot-on, girl! LUV ya!
The sweetest, most amazing reaction, and I loved what you had to say about them and Karen’s voice. 🖤
Back then they had talent!
Such heavenly vocals... Sad that Karen had a SEVERE eating disorder that ultimately resulted in her death :(:(:(
This was my wedding song 💕💕
Youre such a beautiful young woman Quay......Thanks for taking the time to listen to old school. Any genre. Explore all.....
Your reaction ist very classy und genuine...Thank you. :-) We miss you Karen...warm hugs Auf Wiedersehen :-)
The mix of the Carpenters' voices and that reall instrumentation is what I think makes them stand out. They were very conscious of making multiple harmony tracks that would sound big and luxurious. Yeah, a fine duo who produced great albums during the mid-70s.

This was c1970. Their albums were even better in early 70's 😎
Another classic by them is Rainy days and Mondays..
Wow, what a voice.
Check out "Goodbye To Love", from 1972, the first power ballad ever written, and "Now", from 1982, the last song Karen recorded...
I really get a kick out of watching you tube reaction videos of this song, it seems it always brings smiles to peoples faces. Karen had an incredible voice and her brother was a genius at harmonies.
You’re a smart girl opening your mind like this! Love your reaction! Please do more of The Carpenters! You gotta see Karen drum!
Great great smooth voice and her voice ironically projects sadness that may be related to the eating disorder she struggled with
LOVED this reaction! ☻☺
During the 70s this song was played at every wedding.
alot of great music in the 70s girl...nice that you appreciate it
Very nice reaction and commentary.
This was our high school graduation song in 1971
Scribed and following... They were brother and sister. Sadly Karen passed away from anorexia nervosa at an early age. She is widely considered one of the greatest female singers (voices) in the history of recorded music. Other songs by them to consider.. Rainy Days and Monday's Superstar. I love your reactions.... such a pretty smile and aura about you. Keep Rockin'... 🙂😎
You just entered greatness
It's cool your last name is Carpenter just like the band!
This was our high school graduation song in 1971. But, I know it was for other schools as well. Beautiful words with beautiful voices.
ooohhhhyes
Richard and Karen Carpenter were brother and sister. Richard was the genius behind the music and Karen obviously had an incredible voice. Their music was against the popular hard rock of the day but still killed it in the charts in America and around the world.
I am pleased you enjoyed this, Karen has an amazing voice.
Terrific reaction video. I believe Karen Carpenter is the best female vocalist of all time . You have 3 or 4 all time Carpenter classics on the horizon. Enjoy the ride Quay. (I know you will :-) Keep up the great work and please stay safe, RNB
This was the #1 Wedding song in the country for nearly 20 years. You know why you never hear anyone do a cover of Karen Carpenter? Because they can't. Karen had about 15 hi songs, then she passed away right before her 33rd birthday. But her voice will always be with us. Try listening to Alison Krauss, probably the best singer alive today.
You were great too
I absolutely love your accent.

Love your reactions beautiful lady
A live performance.cant tell difference. Sounds as good as the studio version .it's call talent.
Purest voice
I was broken hearted when she passed. So nice to see a young person appreciating. Your face is everything!
You're right about people needing to play instruments back then. I think nowadays with it being so easy to make music on computers it must be difficult to know when the song is finished and they end up with too much going on.
They didn’t even KNOW that voice was in there at first. Can you imagine? She started out as the drummer in Richard’s jazz trio
Karen Carpenter was one of the greatest female vocalist of all times, beautiful amazing voice no auto-tune no back woods tricks just straight up talent. Check out their hit song from 1970 that pretty much started it all for the Carpenters. Check out the song CLOSE TO YOU, find a video on KZread that lasts at least up to 3:41, enjoy
Ms. Karen's voice is Pure and Smooth as budder.. It ranks up there with Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, Diana Ross, Ella Fitzgerald and Ms. Etta James.. (now I can not name everybody).. ♠W.G.
