So refreshing to hear someone so young appreciate why music of that era was so special. No enhancement, no computer generated music, no auto tune. Just pure talent and many years of practice to hone their craft. When music was real. As soon as you showed that you understood why music was so special back then. I subscribed immediately. Haven't seen any more of your reactions. But that was enough to know you were worth watching. Cheers and congrats lovely lady from Australia.

LOL "she can really sing". You baby girl have had the unique pleasure of hearing the greatest female vocalist of all time. Many have tried to imitate her voice but come up short every time. She penetrates your very soul with her velvety silk tones. She was taken from us way too soon. RIP Karen Carpenter. You're truly missed.

My Dear Sweet Quay, The song was first used for a Crocker Bank commercial in the late 60's. If you're curious, Crocker Bank merged with Wells Fargo in the 80's. Yes, I'm that old.:) The Carpenters were a brother and sister combo that had their start in the late 60's and put out their first album in 1970. The brother is Richard who was standing next to Karen, the lead singer and main attraction. To me and to many others, she had the voice of an angel. We've Only Just Begun wasn't really a full song when Richard first heard it on the commercial it was made for. He ran into Paul Williams, the author of the song and asked him if there was a whole song. Paul told him yes and they proceeded to write the additional lyrics while Richard arranged the music. It's played at wedding receptions where it has become the newlyweds first dance song. Also, Karen was a drummer and considered herself as a drummer who happens to sing. They've had many hits, Close to You/#1. This song reached #2. Superstar, and Rainy Days and Mondays, and a whole slew of other songs that I recommend you reacting to. Unfortunately, Karen would pass away at the young age of 32 from heart failure due to bout with anorexia nervosa. God Bless

Hi Baby girl! Welcome! This song is 50 years old and still relevant today! The Carpenters are a brother and sister duo. Karen is the Voice, and Richard is the music! He is classically trained! Karen is now deceased, but she and Richard were a musical force to be reckoned with back in the day! They sounded like no one else, so you couldn't compare them to anyone else!

It's so good to know that young people your age takes the time to listen to and appreciate music from the 60's and 70's. In my opinion, the music from that era is much better than much of the music that comes out today. The Carpenters were very famous and special in their day. Everyone loved Karen Carpenter. By the way, Richard and Karen Carpenter are brother and sister.

This was the music that ended my cousin's wedding video back in 1982 - and probably many more. The late Karen Carpenter is, for my money, the greatest female American singer. There's nowhere to hide in her delivery. And she could still do this in her original capacity as their drummer!

Like others have mentioned, Richard and Karen Carpenter are brother and sister. They were both multi talented. Karen was the drummer in their first bands. Richard is a critically acclaimed composer. Karen dealt with many issues about herself that she let over shadow her immense talent. She passed away in 1983 at around 30 years of age. I have her Album Voice Of The Heart, which I think that she had just completed prior to her death. I would recommend almost anything in their catalog, but especially the song Superstar.

Richard, her brother, did actually use some early technology for overdubbing tracks which helped to create that rich sounds. But you're right, they had people playing actual instruments and then Karen and Richard singing extra dubbed tracks. Richard, her brother, was a brilliant musician who knew how to write for Karen's voice. You should listen to some of their other music like their rendition of Don't Cry for Me Argentina.

I love to see the younger generations appreciate the music we grew up on. I'm happy you really enjoyed this. Karen had a once in a lifetime voice. She was known for recording her songs in one take. She is also an excellent percussionist/drummer. Another difference between then and now is that many of the"artists" are autotuned. Back they they had to be able to SING. Here's a link with Karen singing with Ella Fitzgerald. AWESOME!
