I grew up listening to the Carpenters. As a teenager I would say at times they were my good friends. I would stay up through the night listening to them and it helped me deal with pain as a teen. I am so glad I made it through it. It can be hard on a teen. As a parent I tried to fill the gaps in my own child's life. Their music does make me remember those times.

@rlevitta
Жыл бұрын
He wrote SOME of those beautiful songs - but he's often overlooked. He played piano, arranged and produced almost all of their song, and was 'instrumental' (pun intended) in their success. Notable other composers were Burt Bacharach and Hal David (Close to You,) Paul Williams and Roger Nichols (this song - I Won't Last a Day Without You, Rainy Days and Mondays, We've Only Just Begun,) Leon Russel (Superstar, This Masquerade,) Geld and Udell (Hurting Each Other.) Richard contributed some GREAT songs with lyricist John Bettis (Goodbye to Love, Only Yesterday, Top of the World, Yesterday Once More, and my favorite - I Need to Be In Love.)

This was recorded in a 4-5 year period in the 70s that I consider the Carpenters' golden age. Just a relentless, sequential series of incredibly produced and performed super hits. This was their best material. So much love for them!
Beautiful song -- that gets forgotten. Thank you for featuring and reacting.
Richard Carpenter wrote ALL of those beautiful song and made the best arrangement of the "CLOSE TO YOU" please hear this song.

Karen Carpenter's Voice=Platinum Standard Voice.
yep...you're feeling it, Angela...she was one of a kind.
These are songs you'll hear years from now...and cry remembering how incredible they are.
Her voice is so clear you would swear she is right behind the speakers of your stereo
The way she executes and lowers during the semi bridge: “you’ll always smile, it’s all worthwhile/ I’ve found the best” (etc. during those stanzas), her delivery is absolutely beautiful, unexpected and perfection. Karen Carpenter’s voice was that of an Angel. Rest in Paradise 💫
it's important to understand that, not only is her voice good, but the musicians are not playing the instruments too loud to over power her singing. You can actually hear very clearly her voice and her song.
We need more Carpenters reactions from you!! Karen was indeed amazing and beautiful in every way.
Great reaction! Paul Williams was a brilliant songwriter and a friend of Karen & Richard. It seems like whoever's songs she covered Karen took it to another level.
Her voice makes anyone smile.
Richard, said he wrote all the arrangements, around Karen's voice, and to showcase her voice. Yes, he did great, and it does showcase Karen's voice.
They way you react to Karen's iconic voice is beautiful to watch. Not only are you a lovely woman, but you're a beautiful soul. 😊
Flat out, you are my favorite person to watch reacting to music. You're real, you're sincere and you have a huge heart. Thank you for being you.
This song was one of the only times that Karen had to go back and re-record her backing vocals... She had an inner ear infection during this session... It took her hours to get her "second voice" to match up with her lead vocals.. Eventually in the early hours of the morning.. She finally nailed it...! The rest is history!
I have to say that I'm addicted to watching you listening to my favorite Carpenters songs. I love, Love, LOVE your facial expressions when she sings a really pertinent phrase. Thank you for loving my beloved Karen Carpenter.

You're just scratching the surface, I can name at least 50 more that are great. I agree with you that she had the greatest voice ever. Not the highest notes or the strongest but there's something about it that gives me goose bumps and makes me tear up. Solataire, Little alter boy, Somewhere to hideaway and countless others, but whatever you do don't listen to her last recorded song, NOW unless you want to melt.

Little Altar Boy YES!
There is comfort food right. Well there's comfort singing, or voices. Her voice, singing, is it. Yet why do I cry after all there years? We lost her too soon. She deserved much better from life, more happiness, and love. Especially for what she gave.
Where ever you are & the radio is nearby & karen comes on it stops you in your tracks, just a beautiful soul lost to the world.
This is definitely one of my favorite songs by the Carpenters. Paul Williams wrote it, but Karen breathed life into it. The structure and lyrics of the song are just wonderful, beautifully executed by Karen.

Roger Nichols wrote the music Paul Williams wrote the Lyrics. They also wrote We''ve Only Just Begun and Rainy Days & Mondays
I was your age when The Carpenters were sending out #1 hits. I'm so glad to see these beautiful songs will go on with younger people. We lost Karen way too soon... a tragedy.
