Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "We've Only Just Begun", "Close To You", "Rainy Days & Mondays", "Superstar", "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.

I am new to your channel, and I am also a new fan of The Carpenter. I accidentally hit on a reactor, and he was reacting to this song as I was looking out the window thinking about something personal that happened to me. Her angelic voice and the lyrics to this song just blew me away. I decided then to listen to some of her other hits and what an ear opener. If you feel that this song grabbed at your heart, you MUST I tell you react to the song "Ordinary fool". Lyrically this song is one of the best I have heard in a very long time. And her voice is super clear and crisp. Gosh I am so excited about this new music to enjoy. I hope you consider. By the way, I've decided to subscribe and support your channel.

Soooo many women singers from the 70’s : Carol King- Tapestry Album Melanie: Candles in the Rain-one of her hits Joni Mitchell: Both Sides Now and The Circle Game Judy Collins- The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Amazing Grace (also her version of Send in The Clowns is awesome) Joan Baez - Diamonds and Rust Carly Simon: Your So Vain; Anticipation( cute story about the inspiration for that tune and No, it isn’t a bottle of ketchup) among many others Joan Armatrading (spell?) Love and Affection Karen Carpenter: yesterday once more and I need to be in love; I’m on top of the world and a Christmas tune: Little Altar Boy

Find her tribute to the Carpenters on KZread. Karen had a low register that was mesmerizing. Between Richards arranging, piano and her singing, magic.

I grew up listening to Karen and my voice is actually very similar. (I'm also a Contralto like she was.) There have been some really good suggestions already listed, but I would also add, "Bless the Beasts and the Children," "Sing," her version of "Desperado" and "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft." From that same era, you also had artists like Barbra Streisand, Olivia Newton-John, Barry Manilow, Neil Sadaka, Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt (GOT to do "Blue Bayou!!"), Helen Reddy, Melissa Manchester, Christopher Cross, Dan Fogelberg, Jim Croce.....SSOOOO many GREAT "Adult Contemporary" artists with timeless classics! Thanks for a quick trip down memory lane. 😉

If you like this kind of music, try Michael Ball's albums. I know he's everywhere in the UK & probably a joke to younger generations, but there's a reason he's been so popular for so long. He even covers this song beautifully. Really great? His duet with Amy Wadge of "We've Got Tonight".(You can tell I'm a fan.) - Also, give Doo Wop music a try. Johnny Maestro & the Crests (later The Brooklyn Bridge) are a great example of the genre. Billy Joel's song, "For the Longest Time", is a good example, too.

Hi Kabir. It was really weird when I first saw the Carpenters that she was playing the drums and singing, while her brother played the piano. This video was recorded later in their career. She was already showing signs of the anorexia nervosa that would eventually kill her, and her voice seemed to lack the richness of her earlier years. RIP, Karen.
