I sharpen my carpenter's pencil with a special attachment on my angle grinder. Of course I use all recommended safety gear, especially steel-toed boots.
Pretty cool eraser attachment. Whether I sharpen my pencils either on a sander or I use a razor blade, I usually cut mine at a rough 45° angle. That moves my point closer to one edge. That makes it pretty handy, a lot of the time. Great video, thank you for sharing with us.
Now that's what I call an improvement!
Excellent idea.
Being a commercial artist my entire life I’m quite partial to pencils! LOL! Job well done! I sharpen my carpenters pencil just like that now! You’re the best buddy!! 👍👍👍😎🇨🇱

Nice for pushing very small bits to tablesaw, bandsaw etc. with the the eraser end. When push comes to shove, as the midwife said.
@NextLevelCarpentry

I much prefer the safety of a custom made pushstick to the thought of using a pencil for one Jan-Reinier. You can see one here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/apxosayBmLauaKQ.html Although that's the pattern I use for making regular pushsticks it is useful as a pushstick itself. I use these any time I need to make 'small bits' ie: thin strips on the tablesaw. Best, Matt
Matt, Today’s BIG PROJECT was to add erasers to 5 carpenter pencils. They came together exactly as you described. I gave one to my son, and he asked where I bought it! I showed him your video, but he thought it would be more “meaningful” if I made a bunch for him; kids.... Now, I just need to wait until I make one of my rare mistakes. LOL.... Thanks, again!

I subscribed, long ago. I go back and watch your videos over when I need a little motivation.
Also try an "artists eraser" bit more expensive works well for taking marks off pretty much anything, especially materials like pvc sheets|trim that can get marred if the pink erasers are too cheap. Though it'll also suck up debris like crazy so not as good for messy work areas. Also magic erasers in cleaning supplies does some neat stuff.
@NextLevelCarpentry

I'd be curious how durable an 'artist's eraser' would be by comparison... more diverse erasing capability would be welcome if they're tough enough. Best, Matt
@TheNewton
5 жыл бұрын
@@NextLevelCarpentry Trying it out actually not a good fit for your pencil hack on rough materials, I prolly should have been thinking of vinyl erasers instead. "artists" erasers are weird to describe.. it can be like silly putty, not very durable at all if it's pre-kneaded. In blockform it's inefficient if you just drag it. And to get really cleaned you have to shape,mix and discard parts of it every use /shrug. Smoother surfaces|finishes can get rid of dirty-fingers or that weird grey|pink smear that happens with rubber erasers.
@TheNewton
5 жыл бұрын
you can often get 1 of each 3 types in an artists eraser pack: kneaded, gummy, and vinyl
FYI, freezing temperatures will break the bonds in CA glue, so it's not the rubber in the eraser. Also you'll get a stronger bond if you don't use the accelerator.

Hello Matt: Sure enjoy your style and info presented. Long ago, I started to carry a 3mm mechanical lead pencil you might like better than a carpenters pencil. Swiss made, aluminum body, so can't break. Lead advances just like a mechanical pencil. No eraser, but a built in pencil sharpener. Caran Dache. Google it, but add the wording, "3mm lead" and it'll show up. Can't break it, even on concrete.

Trying out the line of StarBond CA products. Pretty impressed so far... and round bottles required a new caddy. Should do a video on it and probably will if I end up liking the products as much as I think I do. Gorilla, FastCap et al have shortcomings in their product line that Starbond has addressed. They also actually listen to their end users (me) which is impressive in its own right. Time will tell... thanks for watching... and pun-ing! Best, Matt
@danhartman9087
5 жыл бұрын
Matt - what shortcomings in FastCap have you noticed? That's the glue set I have and use. It's only about 6 months old, and I keep it indoors (it's humid, and hotter than Hades here in FL) - they recommend keeping their products in a cool area.
@NextLevelCarpentry
5 жыл бұрын
@@danhartman9087 I drifted away from using fastcap glues mainly because I felt the Gorilla Glue CA glue was less brittle when cured. Also fastcap only offers their accelerator in a giant spray paint can size can witch is totally impractical for my intermittent uses. I'm checking into starbond because they contacted me as a viable KZread channel 2 test out and evaluate their products. I'm drawn to them because they are very end-user oriented unlike fastcap and Gorilla Glue who seem to put more value in what their marketing team says than their end users. In fact I'm having dialogue with starbond regarding their accelerator which might produce some results that cause me to switch to their product line completely. I don't have the temperature issues here that you have there but all the ca manufacturers do recommend storing their product in cooler temps to extend shelf-life and I believe that's valid advice. Enjoy the sunshine... they're predicting snow here again next week if you can believe it?!
When it comes to pencils, You da man! No tape on the BIG pencil?
So.. Draw twice erase once, brilliant! While the eraser is cool, I would love to see a DuhWALT pencil with USB attachment for drawing in CAD. If R&D got on it, it could probably be available by maybe April of next year?!
