It seems that none of them thought to check that this group of inexperienced hippies was actually keeping proper accounts: Sequoia Capital Coinbase Ventures Paradigm Lightspeed Venture Partners SoftBank Temasek Third Point Ventures Tiger Global Management Insight Partners New Enterprise Associates Multicoin Capital Sino Global Capital The auditors were Armanino LLP, a relatively small US company. They appear to have done a woeful job, given the shambolic state of the FTX/Alameda finances and the host of illegal transactions they failed to detect. I was involved in a small venture fund investing in local businesses as part of a local economic development programme. We were far more stringent in our due-diligence and oversight than all these storied Silicon Valley funds were with SBF's fraudulent operations.

How would FTX would turn a profit? They explicitly promised not to take any percentages off of clients' transactions, and that's pretty much the only source of income for any trading platform. They lured people with that "no transaction fee" honeypot and would just "borrow" (steal) ALL of their money instead.

@@midsein They had a number of revenue streams that would have been highly profitable if they hadn't squandered all their assets on foolhardy investments. Their investors may have been inept when it became to oversight, but they most certainly wouldn't have invested $billions if there were no profits to be made.

Cryptocurrency is highly flawed, but the concept and the technology still stands. Blockchain is revolutionary but because its inception mimics the likeness of the stock market, people have abused it as such. Governments do this all the time, ignoring the power of an entity or an industry that allows certain groups to profit.

All that being said the market still has that 1 person like SBF, being CZ that still to this day has not yet had verified audits of his exchange. So why should VCs have trust? Exchanges that have their own tokens should never ever be trusted. Sam got caught, others have, still more to come.

what an "industry" where 1 person can do such damage! its simply ridiculous "industry" with blind people buying thin air for hard money speculating price will fly, but what intrinsic value all these "tokens" have, what problems they solve?

SBF got zero of my money. Zero as in none! I don't care who is pitching the exchange if it's off shore then it's a no in my book. They are off shore for a reason mostly because they'er doing something " a little strange for some change!"

The problem was a lot of users were also over exposed to FTT as well due to platform incentives and their guise as a legitimate and safe business.
