I plan to put a Mercury R series 60hp on mine but that 6 gallon gas tank I’ll have to update it to at least to a 20 gallon

How are you getting 31? I only get 26 on a good day. How deep is your motor set on the jack plate?

We have a DLX1655 and run a Yamaha T50, it does about 33-35 but its almost always loaded. Not sure bout your but the front and back decks do have wood in them. Not the hull but the decks, they are options.

You are indeed correct. I learned the front deck was with plywood encased fiberglass when I mounted my trolling motor. Still lovely built boat though.

I know them flat bottoms don't ride the best in semi rough conditions but how does yours do?

@@jetlee7743 I have since purchased one. I now know first hand how they ride. They're incredible boats for flats fishing/backwater. I can cruise in about 1ft of water. Performance does suffer in chop and becomes a very wet ride. As little as 15mph wind chop can make it a little uncomfortable. I love it for fishing and calm days but if I could do it over I would have went with a v-haul with more deadrise, and likely not a Carolina Skiff because most don't have enough deadrise imo. I think price would play a role as well though. Sometimes you can find these for a really good deal.

@THESOUTHERNBOY49 20 HP might be marginal. She gets on plane at 14 mph and I would think 20 HP would get it on plane with just two people in it. If you add any gear, especially scuba, it definitely would not with a 20 HP. I've had four people all with scuba gear on mine and it could be coaxed up on plane, but she looked like a tug going through the water. They don't make this model any more, as it's been replaced by the Deluxe model. (wider beam, but same basic boat) Same outfit ~$17k

Why did they stop making this model?

  • @vernonharris1495

Because they are known for getting water in the hull and getting water logged. It’s shame because they were a great entry level boat

@THESOUTHERNBOY49 I have a 14' carolina skiff with a 25HP... It picks up enough speed to plane but I really need something faster, cant wait to put a 40HP on the back. You wouldnt like the max speed if you were to put a 20HP on a 16' skiff.....I love my flatbottom skiff!!

20hp on a 16ft skiff would be about the same speed as this boat.

40 is about the limit, it walks sideways on a hard turn. Gets a bit sketchy at full speed.
