Carol Channing/Betty White "Bosom Buddies"

Фильм және анимация

Found this at the end of an old VHS tape, and did not find it already on KZread. This rendition of the "Mame" song is from the cheesy TV classic "The Love Boat."

Carol Channing and Betty White were like a radiant beams of pure sunshine when performing, both were so generous easily making their fellow performers shine just as brightly. Notice how she and Betty perform so excellently together, not at any time does Carol or Betty try to outperform or outdo each other but compliment each other so wonderfully well.

Fun tidbit from Don Bluth's memoir - in his animated 'Thumbelina' he originally cast Betty White as Mrs. Fieldmouse, but didn't like her performance, so he cast Carol Channing instead without telling Betty about it. But he didn't know they were friends, and right after she finished recording Carol called up Betty to tell her she'd just voiced a fieldmouse in an animated movie... and suddenly Bluth was getting angry calls from Betty's agent.

Bea came up the acting world the hard way. Betty white was America's golden girl. She was offered every opportunity. I don't think she spent nearly as much time on Broadway as Bea. Betty was a traditional beauty. She had a great figure, she married well, and she was talented. I believe Bea resented Betty. Bea was tall and masculine. Bea was just never given the opportunity to shine like Betty and I'm sure it must have stung. However, by the seventies Bea was getting the last laugh. As Bea aged, her comic timing, height, and masculine Ora served to distinguish her from the pack. Bea was the star of Maude and the golden girls. Betty, rue, and that ielk were all supporting actresses. However, I'm sure the baggage of that long hard slog up weighed on her. I love them both, but Bea was in a class all her own☺️

Most of your comment was sheer speculation. Bea never stated she didn’t like Betty. Just because they weren’t best friends doesn’t mean they dislike each other. And I didn’t think Betty White was EVER on Broadway? She was always California-based and on tv rather than the stage.

Betty had a lot of hard work in her early TV days. And I have plenty of friends that annoy me. Bea and Betty did clash but they were different personalities and were from different schools of acting.

According to TV screenwriter Stan Zimmerman’s new book “The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore,” Arthur - who died in 2009 - believed White was two-faced. “During our time on set, I never felt tension between the two,” Zimmerman wrote. “I only heard stories and recently learned, from producer Marsha Posner Williams on a podcast, that Bea thought Betty was two-faced,” he continued. Zimmerman was previously a scriptwriter on iconic series such as the “Golden Girls,” “Gilmore Girls” and “Roseanne.” “Bea liked real people,” he went on. “I had the sense that Betty was more like Sue Ann Nivens, the character she played on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show,’ than she was like Rose. More conniving than the innocent airhead from St. Olaf.” Arthur’s son, Matthew Saks, previously spoke on the rumored feud. “My mom unknowingly carried the attitude that it was fun to have somebody to be angry at,” Saks told Closer in 2017, adding that White became her “nemesis.” White also touched upon the hospitality between her and Arthur in 2011, telling the Village Voice: “She found me a pain in the neck sometimes. It was my positive attitude - and that made Bea mad sometimes. Sometimes if I was happy, she’d be furious!” Saks revealed in 2016 that his mother would become annoyed when the “Hot in Cleveland” alum would chat and joke with the studio audience when they would film “Golden Girls.” “I think my mom didn’t dig that. It’s more about being focused or conserving your energy. It’s just not the right time to talk to fans between takes. Betty was able to do it and it didn’t seem to affect her. But it rubbed my mom the wrong way,” he dished to the Hollywood Reporter at the time.

Carol said that Jerry Herman asked her to play it (originally) but she felt that "lightening striking twice" was not likely (she had just finished her run on Broadway as Dolly at the time).

The problem with this version sure isn't the talent here. Some idiot upped the tempo to provide time for the dancing thighs and breasts, added a laugh track and 'reaction shots' and killed any hope that these greats exploit this material for maximum effect. In other words, everyone should have stayed out of the way, provided a curtain a microphone and 3 minutes, and left them alone todo their thing.
