I am 2 yrs carnivore and tried going back to eating like most people eat. And it was a disaster ! I was on the toilet for days, eczema came back, headaches, runny nose, sneezing, fatigue, pain and weight gain ! I can do a little white rice, lettuce, zucchini, and that is it. But I'll just stick with carnivore thank you lol ! 😄

Elliot is a genius - his ideas, suggestions and guidance have helped my husband and me so much. We are forever grateful to him. This debate concerning strict carnivore versus some plant food reminds me of The Blood Type diet, from many years ago. More and more I am sensing that Dr. D’Adamo may have been onto something important, if not in all the details, perhaps in the general macronutrients needed. The idea is that one’s blood type indicates one’s body’s ability to digest certain foods, not directly, but that there is a correlation between them. The blood type, being easy to ascertain, can help guide the dietary choices for optimal health. Type O - meat, especially beef (obviously carnivore adapted); Type B - mixed meat (preferably lamb) and some plants and dairy; Type A - light meats and more plants; Type AB - similar to A but a little more restrictive. What Elliot is expressing and wrestling with seems to fit in generally with D’Adamo’s ideas. Just a thought….

I find I get too much GI discomfort at either extreme - vegan/carnivore. Too much fibre, especially from beans/starch, and too much fat with carnivore had me running to the toilet. I find it’s best with animal products, animal fat and a side of low carb veg for salad works well for me.

My fiance thrived on a vegan diet. My hair started to fall out due to my autoimmune disorder and malabsorption even though we were eating unprocessed, meticulously balanced foods. Now, I'm thriving on a diet of carnivore plus one serving of greens per day. I mean: waking up at 5 am and going to the gym then killing it all day THRIVING, which my autoimmune disorder shouldn't allow. But my fiancee felt like sleepy anxious garbage and had to reintroduce carbs. There are definitely personal physiological differences that come into play.

One possibility is that there's a bit of a 'chicken and egg' problem with digesting high fat high protein, and getting adequate taurine (sulfur) reserves to produce sufficient bile acids to digest a diet suddenly higher in protein and fat when transitioning from a plant based or SAD to carnivore. Taurine as an osmolyte can also help regulate minerals and electrolytes in much the same way that adding in some carbs can be helpful for people with cramps or electrolyte issues. It may take many months to restore taurine levels even if eating only large quantities of meat. Adding extra seafood may help. I think in the context of toxicity syndromes the body wastes minerals in the process of detoxification and enzymes also get damaged, increasing the need for minerals beyond what is available in food, and this is where supplementation can be a helpful add-on or the basis of a detox protocol. Sulfur in various forms has been key to improving many of my challenging symptoms even before going 95% carnivore. People could consider adding taurine, B1, biotin, NAC, MSM, epsom salt baths, etc and other minerals if appropriate and they aren't getting the results they are looking for, Elliot Overton has lots of good content on these topics.

My main concern with plants is that they have "anti-nutrients" which interfere with the absorption of nutrients we get from the foods we eat which are highly bioavailable. Also, even tho' plants may have nutrients our body would like, we cannot absorb them from the plants we eat and these nutrients pass thru us.

Sally K Norton says this is actually caused from Oxalate damage which effects the use of glucose from protein (meat). She recommends adding in a few carbs at dinner only until the body has healed and then you'll be able to extract the glucose from meat and finally be able to do 100% carnivore successfully.

@@johnkane9472 add in Potassium Citrate and Magnesium Citrate supplements and adjust your salt (reduce if necessary) if you haven't tried that yet. The citrate will dissolve the Oxalates and the potassium and magnesium will help with the cramps (will take several weeks before noticing a difference). That's what worked the best for me. I'm finally off of carbs without cramps and my sleep has returned, finally. I've also found that eating a bit leaner (90/10 ground beef as an example) for dinner (don't eat past 3:30 p.m.) has also helped tremendously with my sleep. Eating any later seems to not allow enough time to digest the meat before bed and can cause you to sleep unrested and possibly wakeup at 2 a.m. wide awake.

59 guy was in Carnivore for 17 months, tried to cut expenses back to ketodiet with plants. I lost weight which I did not wanted to do, plants did not taste good. Cutting expenses I used more eggs than ever, best I can buy, I ate these 3 evenings in a row, only 4, could not just eat more. Next weekend was really bad, I barely could train HIIT, pulse was 135 and did not go lower in 1 min 20 sec, usually it does go so high and drops quickly under 100. Next morning I saw why Lillie Kane was not using eggs any more, I had same issues. I am trying to get few kgs back for a week now with delicious cheese and meat. Try to leave eggs for a while, thank you all for comments advice.

I think I am one of those people who can't do full blown carnivore. I've been carnivore for 2 years but the past 6 months my eczema has been getting worse. Butter, tallow, grass fed beef and organ meats are all causing flares and inflammation on my entire face. I get sinus congestion, headaches, brain fog, itchy throat. According to Elliot in another video and frank Tufano this occurs in carnivores when zinc consumption is too high and not enough copper. I'm currently taking kidney supplements and copper so hopefully I can continue carnivore but realistically when I would go off carnivore and eat SAD I didn't have any problems with my skin, just some minor pudginess.

Thank you Lillie. I think no one really knows right now for sure. There is such a political aspect to food and medicine globally right now. I do know animal products supply the essential fatty acids and amino acids we need in every part of our body. I also know the body works hard for homeostasis and will start creating what wit needs if we give it all the tools. I have toxic dumping going on as I lose weight and I tried adding in some as Nutritionist suggested an it didn't really help and seemed to increase my pain. I added back calcium/magnesium and D3 for breakthrough pain management. I joined the Steak and Butter gang on Mighty networks for community and to see if some had tried other things. The coaches on there have a method called priming that loads the body with the building blocks- seems to speed up the healing process. I am on week three and I am finally getting my energy levels up, since getting ill in Novemeber. People are all at indivdual levels, yes but sometimes we get worse before we get better and belonging to a group of experienced people to support you is vital, you may think you are getting worse because of how you feel or vise versa. All pharmaceutical medicine has a toxic "side effect" and most plant medicinals too but we can use them in small amounts to get the medicinal benefits. Humans have been doing this for thousands of years and some other mammals do this too(bears eat herbs when they are ill). -- Again lots we need to learn including body, mind, spirit connection and social too. Thank you.

First thought was if there was any placebo in his argument. Could it be that the general population believes plants are good for you, so it's not the plant that's helping rather their psychological response to consuming plants. It's the same as getting rid of hiccups. You tell/ convince yourself something works like saying watermelon three times or staring at a light to get rid of the hiccups. But the solutions don't actually work. It's the psychological response that affirms it. And if the masses already believe veggies and fruits are good for you, then by definition your starting every subject as a placebo. Just a thought...

9:45 - this attitude is pure relativism and should be avoided: to claim that everything has toxins therefore toxins in plants are okay is misleading because the so-called toxins in meat, fish, eggs, water aren’t natural toxins they’re a by-product of either poor husbandry or tainted environment. But plant toxins are 100% natural to normal healthy plants…that’s a huge difference. I agree with the point that context matters - i.e. depending on one’s starting point (genetic predispositions, health status, age, sex, etc) not all diets will be appropriate for all people and that for some people plants will be fine and carnivore detrimental in others. But I think Elliot’s right that a diet balanced more in favour of animal products at a population level would provide better health outcomes.

Could be low potassium, low thiamine. I suffered the same. Depending on your pre-carnivore diet, you are probably some degree of malnourished. Make an exit plan from carnivore, with the understanding that you will probably suffer negative symptoms when reintroducing plant foods, but they will often go away if you persist, and your digestive system adjusts. If I could re-do my exit from carnivore, I would have gone more slowly, taken a good multi vitamin, Thorne b-complex, and potassium.

Rarely is any food all good or all bad. A plant may have some downsides if eaten but with upsides that overshadow them if not consumed in excess. I also agree certain plan toxins likely induce a hormesis effect that stresses the body, but the healing process provides benefits to the body. In the end, you have to experiment with your diet to find what is optimal for you. Nutrition science is very complex, and it's hard to really truly know what the best diet is.

The carnivores who are suddenly having to add fruit and vegetables back in are those eating a fair bit of organs. So since the organs can lead to hyper nutrition, and that can cause the thyroid function and health problems Saladino and others have, maybe that is the issue. The Inuits gave them to the dogs would be interesting to see.

Switching from high carb to low carb and zero fibre helped me with constipation, cleared my eczema, stopped headaches and migraines, stopped recurring frequent infections and my gums stopped being very sore but carnivore worsened my digestion as the months went by and it improved only when I added a slice of sourdough daily and a bit of overcooked broccoli that I started to feel better. Carnivore is also impossible for hyper hyper responders whose LDL gets as high as 700 + because to lower such high levels they need to eat some carbs daily, or gain weight or take a statin pill once or twice a week.

How about the idea that one of the greatest strengths to carnivore is the degree to which it is switching on fat for fuel. I would want to mess with that. Deuterium is another reason to stick to fat as fuel.

There is no one diet that's perfect, or even optimal, for everyone. My diet of meat and dairy would kill my sister who is severely allergic to milk fat for example. The "standard" diet would kill me as I'm allergic to grains and soy, which are the staple foods in that diet, and bloat up and get terminally bad metabolic syndrome from all the sugars and starches in it. That's not the case for everyone either (and yes, I know that diet is promoted for ideological and economic reasons, not reasons of public health, which is scandalous).

I agree! I went strict Carnivore & 8 days later- my condition was worse than it ever was. Everyone said I was Oxalate dumping, so I added some carbs back in- didn’t help but I kept the carbs & actually feel better. Maybe this lifestyle is a marathon instead the sprint I was thinking it was going to be. I do still have my strict days but just knowing I can have carbs if I want them, makes life easier.

If you really think oxalate dumping might be part of the problem (or contributing in some way), then an alternative to adding carbs might be to add non-carby higher oxalate things like tea or kale/spinach. I’d heard from Sally Norton that the body’s oxalate dumping and clearing seems to happen in 3-week cycles. 🤷‍♀️
