This is the table wine of my favorite Italian restaurant, and one that you can't go wrong with, perfect to accompany your meal or alone. Like you mentioned, I also like that they state wine is meant to be accessable and enjoyed cheaply. I enjoy the burgundy also and have yet to try the Cabernet Sauvignon. I picked up a jug tonight for 12.99 that's under $2.60 when compared as a 750ml bottle which usually start at 5$ and change. Cheers

As of today, and buying it in Northern California in the Sacramento Valley, it is 12.0% ABV in the 4 liter glass jug. I'm not sure why that would change (yours being 11.5%) as most jug/bag-in-box wines here are 12.0%. $9.99 to $12.99 for the 4 liters depending which supermarket/drugstore (CVS/RiteAid) and whether or not it is on sale. That my not seem impressive but with a $15 per hour minimum wage and $4+ per gallon gas/diesel here in The People's Socialist Republic of California it is impressive. In my area WinCo and FoodMaxx offer Carlo Rossi for great prices, and often on sale. One of the ONLY, and I really mean that, benefits of living in California is cheap and abundant alcohol. My palate is very, very, very adverse to dryness. This wine is absolutely the definition of the "driest" wine that I can handle. It is, for me, 50/50 sweet/dry. I keep this jug in my pantry and pour it over ice (don't care) when drinking so that helps to make it approachable for me. Carlo Rossi's Sweet Red has a much reduced ABV (8.0%?) which is ridiculous to me, and it is a poor Sweet Red compared to the other similar brands. I'm not sure what to say about Paisano as I am not at all familiar with wine or grapes. I get prune, vanilla, butterscotch, light perfume, and dark grape in the nose. It smells like the floor of an older casino. The taste becomes sweeter as you drink more. As always I appreciate your going into the history of the brand. With "affordable wines" I'm sure that there is more history with this than we will ever know. Whether I get deeper into wines or not, Carlo Rossi offers me an approachable starting point. I don't do snooty and pretentious. For what it is worth, you seemed a little "prepped" before this review. A pure review would start from scratch and the influence of alcohol would be noted.

I love how you poured your wine glass full to the tippy top just about. I guess that's a natural thing to do when you have a big old jug to pour from. I notice how the more expensive of a brand a wine is from a 750ml size bottle, a few tablespoons seems to be poured in each serving of wine per glass instead usually. Cheers!

Carlo Rossi is probably the "house wine" at your local bistro - table wine does not need to be vintage or fancy. Food friendly & cheap every day wine is fine for pizza or curry. There is worse stuff for more $ in smaller bottles with cuter labels. Drink up the Carlo and save your $ to buy the really good stuff when it matters.

Paisano is my old college wine and I still love it. Its a great value for the price. I will pour a stealth glass to my wine snob friends and they usually like it and are aghast when I tell them what it is. So much of beverage enjoyment is about perception and brand marketing. A shrimp and scallop PoBoy is perfect with Paisano.

A friend of mine and his wife drove around rural Spain and Portugal, and they drank "ordinary" wines and roadside taverns. You just know these places weren't paying a lot for it. They said it was the best wines they'd ever drunk.

Roland, I do believe. would be alike when taken a ploughman lunch in England and get a pint, not the most costly but serves well with the meal. Many are biased I think
