That delay on the 4.0 and 5.0 is insane. I have the 3.0 Mini on my Toyota and it runs butter smooth.

Had the Mini 3 and it work fine for about 5 min, then its overheating and starting to have serious delays (over 1 min delay). Just sent it back to the seller and thinkin which one should product should i go with

For those complaining about connection issues with older models...check from time to time for firmware upgrades. I still use the 2.0 and the experience after upgrades it's improving dramatically.

Your reconnect time test is totally flawed. I have the same Jeep and the USB port retains power for 30 minutes after you shut off the vehicle. The Carlinkit never shut off in your test, therefore it appeared to reconnect immediately.

i was just about to say the same thing, my car also retains power on the USB for some time after i turn of the car, so the carlinkit would not have turned off at all in that short amount of time

i love the 5.0 in my my Maxima but wish it had higher music quality like tidal or using a dragonfly

I had hope you tested the the two devices with Android Auto and not just CarPlay. It would be interesting to see the effect on boot up time and performance between 4.0 having to convert protocols and 5.0 converting both Android Auto and carplay natively.

Same with the cars head unit. They are actually running in the background and take 2 to 5 minutes before they actually shut down.

Hi, thanks for the compression Is there any advantage for 5 over 4 regarding the stability of the connection? the video already shows that the 5 have a slower booting connection (about as double) is that only for the first boot? or on a daily base? also do i need to choose the Carlink 5 on the Bluetooth list every time i enter the car? as you said at the video or i missed understood it. i have the 3 mini and i sent it back it was terrible after 5 min of use it was unusable due to major delays. I read somewhere, that some of these devices, where using 2.4 Ghz, and many had 5 Ghz as well, and the newest one's out also use 5.8 Ghz. Unsure if having these options helps, speed wise, but overall many of these devices on the lower cost side 'can' have issues, albeit this CarlinKit is often one of the top performers.

I use Samsung S23 Ultra, and just got the 5.0 2air for my 2020 Audi A5 premium plus. Setup was very quick and it works as advertised. Boot up time when starting the car is the same as wired connection. Maps and texting was exactly the same. No lags or glitches for me. I have a wireless charging pad in the console anyway, so I don't need wired connection for power. Very convenient for quick trips where I can leave my phone in my jacket pocket.

Has the Carlinkit 5.0 builtin microphone? Does it work with android headunits?

Do I have to use a specific usb plug or can I use any. It would be nice to not have to lay it in the wireless charger

I originally bought the 2nd version, then the 3rd and now have the 4th. I often get times where the phone refuses to connect all for many days at a time. After fiddling, it will connect good enough for another week or two, then it goes into the mode again where it won't connect at all for a long time. Not sure if I blame Apple or Carlinkit, but it's very frustrating. Hopefully 5.0 improves this issue.

Just got the 4.0 for my 22 accord, every time i use Waze or Maps the image blurs out, as if i had bad internet connection, which is not the case my phone usually works fast on those areas, any idea what’s wrong???

But the C connector is just a power supply cord, not a connection to the radio. I have 3 version and it stopped working. It can connect in the first time of the day, but then it completely blocks and I have to disconnect it from usb, after that I doesn’t reconnect at all after connecting usb again. The confusing part is that it worked perfectly fine for months, and suddenly this started working, so i imagine that it was some sort of update from Apple that damaged the functionality of the device.

Does it also work with a phone which has Android 9 and 4G Wifi?

4.0 here, no problems so far

Feel like its not that great if you want to be switching between wired and wireless and hard to switch between different phones too, not as easy as sharing an aux cable for sure. I have android auto and had to disconnect and forget the bluetooth from my car to phone, connect the phone's wifi to the carlink and then connect the bluetooth of the phone to the carlink. Then it made the display output a lot smaller than how it is on wired android auto. When I disconnected it and tried to go back to wired android auto, I had to forget the carlink bluetooth and re-pair the car bluetooth for calls to be heard through the speakers of the car, like anyone would prefer. Quite clunky and wireless seems to drain the battery quick too, best to just stick with wired and use this when the cable inevitably goes bad and you're in-between getting a replacement cable.

Thanks for the video. If you use only Apple CarPlay and iPhones is there any reason to upgrade from version 4 to version 5? Only got my version 4 two weeks ago.

Carlinkt 4.0 is good but it is very clunky and slow in my experience. Be good if there was a way to switch multiple devices i.e. if my wife’s phone connects it would be great if I could disconnect via the interface and choose my phone. I wouldn’t be rushing out to buy another as support has been rubbish as well!

Just put your phone in airplane mode then tap your wife’s phone in the startup screen. Make sure both are connected first. You can do this once both are saved. Then turn airplane mode off.

Probably Yes... Because while using android auto, the head unit detects it as apple carplay... So may be this device works on the same principle as apple carplay unknowingly converting android auto signal into apple carplay

CarlinKit 4.0 works if your car comes with wired Apple Car Play. You can have wireless AC or AA. CarlinKit 5.0 works if your car has wired AC or wired AA.

Great overview, we have a Carlink2.0 currently and considering upgrade due to delays and serious connection issues. I assume the 5.0 would be a considerable upgrade in lag and stability.

Boot up time got 100% worse. So you can’t assume things get better anymore. Sometimes a later model might be nothing more than a cost reduction version.

You would have to replace the OEM head unit with either one that HAS CarPlay, or an aftermarket one. The issue is that CarPlay requires specific hardware as well as having specific resolution requirement for its screens.

Does it require the car's factory infotainment system to have wired carplay or android auto?

Most cars shut off the USB ports off the headunit when you turn them off so battery drain really shouldn't be an issue unless your car is different.

You still need to keep the mobile device in the same position so might as well leave it hard wired..

Does this enable a car with Carplay, but no Android Auto, to run Android Auto through this device?

If you already have CarPlay or AA, this will only turn it wireless.. so you don’t have to plug in a wire. No screen mirroring

Heh, "volkswagen" showing up as the car menu icon on the 5.0 is just poor design of the wireless adapter. VW and FCA have no affiliation what so ever when it comes to stereo systems. Uconnect is exclusive to only fiat, chrysler, jeep, etc.
