Carl Zeiss Jena 20mm F2.8 Flektogon MC // FIRST THOUGHTS (Shot on Sony FX6)
In today’s video, I give my first thoughts on the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 20mm f2.8 MC. All shot on the Sony FX6.
If you want to purchase this lens / another Carl Zeiss Jena lens, I recommend buying from Ebay. Make sure the seller has good reviews and will accept returns (just in case).

Good stuff. Yes, wide and fast works really well indoors.
Very helpful, as I am also looking to buy one of these. Could you please tell me how much degrees the focus throw is? :)
The man is always creating magic! 🔥🙌🏼

Thanks Ben! I recommend them!
Great stuff. I have Jena 135mm, 35mm flektogon and a Helios 44m-6. Awesome lenses! just recently replaced my Canon 250d with a Sony A7sII so im all excited about these new lenses i got for it.
I have this lens but am having trouble figuring out how to activate the manual focus. With the switch flicked to "manual", it simply does not change the aputure.
Hey! I'm looking to get a Carl Zeiss wide-angle lens. Did you do any research on the 25 distagon f2.8?? I'm debating on getting the 20mm jena f4 or 25 distagon f2.8. If you have any insight could you let me know your recommendation between the two?

Hey, I have not. I just went with the 20 2.8 since they live in the “MC” set
I love the design and the results of this lens, I really like this review

For interiors and architecture straight lines are important did you test the distortion characteristics and were any corrections required in post for stills?
@jonwaldman94

I see no distortion. If any, its minimal. I don't do any corrections in post.
Great video, thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much! That “mini cine set” video you guys made a few years ago definitely helped spark my interest in the Carl zeiss jenas!

@@jonwaldman94 Mine too... Debating if I 'need' the 20mm to complete the set? Did you shoot the footage in FF or Cropped, looks like FF but wanted to double-check?

Thanks!! Ooh very nice! Cheers
please make more samples with this lens
Great video and sick color grading. The legendary Zeiss 3D pop is definitely real. However w this lens I think its pretty over priced now (circa mid 2024). At about $700-800 they're way better options in the market...
So you are happy with linear distortion across the frame for interiors/architecture/travel/urban style?

Yes. Its great
I just got a Zeiss Jena 35mm f2.4 the other day and will be doing a video on it soon. The CZJ lenses are beautiful lenses.

Great video "impressions" episode, Jon. I have a 20mm Flektogon f/4 on the way from East Europe. I live a bit more dangerously than you, preferring vintage lenses with single-coating. If you have the time, do an episode on the 50mm f/1.8 Pancolor, eh ??

Lol thanks Mike!! Will definitely get to that video soon!
Great video! Somebody has this lens on sale on my 'local marketplace' I really want it, but it's also still kind of pricey... I'm in doubt :)
Thanks for the video, I just bought mine, so excited for it to come. Do you still use this lens nowadays ? Cheers

@@alexisferrenbach yes. As an additional camera for more artistic set shots. For typical walk through videos I’d probably recommend a 16-35 for the versatility. 20mm isn’t always wide enough.

I love the 35mm MC Jena beautiful lens…. My other favourite is the 50mm Jena Pancola, colours are absolutely beautiful on this one. Just got a 50mm Contex 1.7 as well that one I’m yet to try. That 20mm one looks lovely.
you should try the CZ Jena 135mm 3.5 . it's cheap and good.

For a vintage lens it must have swirl, soap or bubble bokeh, low contrast and most important Flare! This lens seem to be a little modern and ahead of its time. Most of the image shown here are a little too clean looking for my taste tho. But great video u presented here. Thanks!
