Joshua Jardim my pleasure, more similar comparisons coming soon
I love how vintage Pentax made their own visual style.
I'm stuck on the Zeiss & Pentax
Great video! I have the Zebra 20/4 CZ Jena and it has similar results, might be a tad less sharp but that bokeh is really similar.
1st Zeiss 2nd Pentax
Amazing video! Thanks for sharing!
Dope! What music did you use for this video? It sounds really good and isn't too distracting!
have you heard about Sigma XQ 24mm filtermatic multicoated? how is it?
Sure, that Pentax is expensive, but I like the results that you got with it. Almost worth it, to me.
Great idea, but without knowing the sensor size this is useless. How much of the image circle is being used ????
any cheapest wide angle to fit with my sony a6300
What is the name of the soundtrack in this video? :)
Sweet comparison, Alan! Next time? Flare test! k? yay! :D

***** Sure thing, man. Your reviews are too good to be true already :]
Thank you for this video
what no mention of the zuiko 2/21 :P the MIR-20 is actually a copy of the early CZJ Flektogon 4/20 design, warning some of these lens do not focus to infinity correctly due to human error at the factory (avoid the k mount and nikon mount versions) *not really a problem for video work if you use focus peeking the Pentax-A 2.8/20 unusually high used price tag is due to the fact it was only produced for 6 years and it was to expensive for the average consumer even though its optical design is basically a copy of what canon was using in 1973 ( in 1997 the asking price in the european market was £800, in today's money that would be approximately $1950usd in 2016) that carl zeiss jena lens is definitely de-centered and the canon 2.8/20mm SSC is also de-centered and is suffering from balsam glue degradation due to having a thorium element leave it in the sun for a week and that should clear up the yellow cast, anyone thinking of buying FD lens get the FDn versions they are just as good and are usually cheaper.

just to clarify de-centering is when one more more elements is off axis, which results in a slight shift in the depth of field from the one side of the frame to the other. in the zeiss lens it happens due to age, elements that were cemented together have begun to separate over time, with the canon fd lens its mostly due to wear and tear of the mechanisms used in a floating element design but element separation is also common with lens of this vintage. de-centering is not really a problem with wide angle lens as its only noticeable wide open and if your looking for it, it usually shows up as one side of the frame has more focus on the foreground and the other side shows the background more in focus. in the video i noticed both the zeiss and canon exhibited such behavior.
I want that MIR so bad.

MaghoxFr same but bothered its not a 2.8
Awesome Video! I have it a like. I'm currently working on a comparison between my Canon 24mm 2.8 STM and Sears 28mm 2.8mm, the Sears does not profits too well wide open. I would love to get some better vintage lenses. I really liked the Ziess and Mir! The Soligor looks nice too for the price. I like swirly bokeh.

***** Thanks :)
Do you have a Canon fd 24mm ?
Thanks a lot, this helped me discover the MIR-20M, I was not aware of it's existence and was in search of a Russian M42 20mm to my M42 set....

***** It's already on it's way, already here in Brazil from Russia, in fact. Customs already cleared it out and I hope to have it this month if our mighty bloody postal service feels like delivering it.....
There may be missing factors here, but I am surprised at the relatively poor performance of the Canon lens, even though Canon was never known for the quality of its wide angles. Big surprise is the Soligor, this being a really old lens from the early 1960s, often seen in a Miranda mount. Have to wonder how a modern 20mm like the last model of the Nikkor 20mm 2.8 would compare.I suspect it would blow off all of these lenses, as the Nikkor wides were a high priority at Nikon.
Camera ? Sensor size ? I would had expect this information available since it does a huge difference.

Sylvain Paquette From what I was seeing back a few years ago he was using I think a NEX I want to say 5(I believe that's what he was using when he did his 17mm comparison). So unless he's like me where I have a nice newer m43 to get the dual ibis etc and an older Sony for the increased FOV then I imagine he might have gone from that to an a6000 followed by an a6500 that he's likely using now or a full frame Sony...
holy SH*t!!! that FUGKING zeisss lens. dude thanks for the video. and love your channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! gonna watch the rest of your videos now =)
Hi i have a Carl zeiss flektogon 2.8/f20 do you know whats mount it is? cant i bye adaptor for my Canon M6 ? great video!!
@AminTheMystic

You need to see a picture to determine the mount. But likely it is m42 - if it is a "screw" mount. And yes you can buy adapters for canon - but first find out what the mount is.
Show the edges, that`s what separates duds from blasts.
It would have been better if you have used Soligor 20mm f/2.8 instead of 21mm f3.8.
The zeiss is a 20mm not a 28mm
Why do you use 200% crop? The interpolation used affects the original image quality. No one should use crops over 100% when making this type of IQ comparisons...
Why not the olympus 21mm?

shame, he didn't dare to put a more recent cheap 20mm next to 'em, e.g nikkor ag 20mm 1:2.8 (~$200-250)
Nikkor 20mm f3.5 Ai the best!!!

Because I don't own one :)
I think zeiss wins at 2.8
it's probably not to big of a deal for most people. Especially if you just own one or two lenses. But if you have over 100 vintage lenses, shouldn't you be worried about the thoriated (radioactive) ones? probably not all of the lenses are but i can imagine a lot of them are. i just got me a Pentax 55mm f1.8 and a lot of video's here on KZread seem to test how radioactive the lens is.
@EarlVy
7 жыл бұрын
don't be so worried about radioactivity. Unless you sleep with bunch of super takumars under your pillow you are perfectly safe. Super takumar gives around 1mR/h (aka 10uS/h) from the back of lens only. Usage of metal cover (or leaving lens on camera) almost neglects this radiation.
ZEISS ! :D
pentax wins.
You're not gonna find the best if you exclude the old nikon 20mm lenses.

I have a 20 mm Nikkor. It seems pretty good but I use it for shooting film, seldom digital and never video. It was pre-ai, but I managed to find the new aperture ring to convert it.
IN 200% all lenses are crap lenses O.,o
They are so redicolously expensive now, migth as well buy a new modern one. Besides Tamron releases a 11-20mm F2.8. That is waay more sharp and proper made. You can make a vintage look just make it sligthly out of focus.

more properly made out of plastic for a tiny sensor camera boy
Focus off on every shot/lens...
The Zeiss bokeh is so ugly! I would probably choose Canon or Pentax!
Not worth the money
