    I'm a big fan of the SP class of Adaptall II lenses from Tamron, of which its 28mm prime lens is NOT included. I own a number of them. However, in terms of doing what you buy a lens for, putting an image on a piece of film, this 28mm is no better than a mediocre to average performer by the standards of its time, and even less so now. That is perfectly expected, as it is not one of the SP lenses, where Tamron pulled out the stops and made lenses which were as good or better and most of the maker camera/lens producers. Depending on your need lens mount, you should be able to find a 28mm from a major maker or another independent maker which will exceed the performance of this lens for a similar price. Example, for Nikon, the later versions of its 28mm 3.5 will greatly blow this lens away, and probably cost less because of the hype given this lens.

    I have a Konica Hexanon 35mm f2.8 to do my YT videos; but I just purchased a FD 35mm f2.8. It will be interesting to see the difference on my Canon R8. The Hexanon is super sharp. I do head shots at f16 trying to get the background library super sharp. Help stamp out Northrup Bokeh!

    I think this is the same lens as the Raynox 135mm 1:2.8 and the Ringfoto 135mm 1:2.8 It was made by Cimko in Japan. But take care, there are several versions, also by different manufacturers. It has to look like the lens in the beginning of the video (58mm filter thread if I'm right). Simply being called Optomax 135mm 1:2.8 means zilch since different suppliers were used for the same brand name. This video looks excellent. I guess you stopped down for some sharpness.

    Awesome interview! Thanks for doing this! Last winter I shot a short film with my FX3 to Prores Raw (on Helios lenses with a Great Joy 1.33x anamorphic adapter), and I used Assimilate Scratch to convert the Prores Raw to CDNG so I could edit in Resolve. There's also an app called Raw Converter that can do the same thing.

    Excellent conversation and questions. Interesting the choice of going for a more human ‘look’ i.e. less clinical digital even though the movie is as heavy with CGI as any contemporary movie can be.

    hello, where did you buy the adapter for Mir-11 12.5mm F2.2 ?

  • @pjfsr7024
    @pjfsr702411 ай бұрын

    First camera I ever bought was in an army PX, it was ( still is ) my Canon FT Ql- with this 55 F1.2, still kicking, but now on my Sony A6000 with FD-E adapter. My son wanted to do film photography, I had a Canon G3, so I gave him the Canon F,T a month later he gifted me his A6000 and 4 lenses- 16mm 2.8, 16-50 kit, a 55-210 kit TWO 35mm Sony 1.8 and Neewer 1.7. Son found my 55 a bit heavy so he bought his own 50mm1.4 SSC and returned my 55-1.2. I also have these lenses below, my problem is never what lens to buy, but which lens do I want to use. Camera FT with 55 F1.2 Lens cost me..125$, in 1971. I have a Canon 50-1.8, Tamron 28mm and 135mm Tele, Canon 35-105 with macro, Vivitar 75-205, a Sigma 75-200mm and finally a INA 350mm F5.5

    I bought the Tamron 17mm about 40 years ago. At that time, it was just about the only choice short of paying twice as much or more for a Nikkor. I've actually used it very little over the years because ultra wide imaging and I just do not seem to get along. A friend of mine used it a couple of times on our landscape trips and thought quite highly of it. (Thanks Adaptall II mounts) I always assume that these types of lenses will not perform very well wider than f 8.0, so sharpness isn't an issue. At least, my copy of the lens will flare like nothing else I've ever owned if you are foolish enough to get the sun in the image, its open major flaw.
