Why do we get jealous and envious of other people, but also idolise and admire others at the same time?
It is quite paradoxical but I will explain to you why this happens.
It’s all got to do with the way we project our unconscious emotion into the world.
Because behind these reactive feelings there is a much deeper truth that, if understood, will bring us a lot of purpose and meaning into our lives through realisation.
Jealousy, envy, idolisation and admiration are unconscious impulses or reactions we have towards both the world and other people around us.
But most of the time they are unconscious to us, we don’t know why we feel these feelings.
This is because most people go off impulse, they don’t question the cause of impulse through introspection, they don’t know why they idolise what they idolise nor why they are envious or jealous of certain people or certain things, it is only understood as a reactive feeling but not a cause for action or change.
So the reason to why these feelings can be transformative for ourselves is dependent on our ability to perceive and judge them, because they are all rooted in the shadow, and integrating them correctly will lead us towards positive transformation.

Studies showed people are following the others or what others do because they are afraid to be rejected. In order to be accepted people embrace whatever the corrupt system dictates as being ”the norm”, for ex artificial intelligence. Someone said embracing and obeying this leads to worship and this worship happens because they dont understand the basics of that thing or how it works. So you also mentioned the importance of personal effort. Until I dont do something for having my own experience about it, it will remain a mystery subjected to mesmerization. Considering this we remember Jung was talking about having a personal experience with God opossed with external worshipping.

How does this relate to sexuality? I am a guy and if I like growing hair or moustache, does it mean I am attracted to men who have those qualities?
none of the actions you mention in the opening are juxtaposed or dualistic among themselves...perhaps enigmatic at best. I did enjoy the video tho

Jealousy/Envy = negatively unconscious shadow projection. Idolisation/Admiration = positively unconscious shadow projection.

personally I can see myself as potentially having all 4 of them simultaneously without having a sense of juxtaposition in my behavior. I am jealous and envious of women as I idolize them in complete admiration for their feminine attributes rather than understanding what needs I have yet to meet in myself by failing to re integrating suppressed feminine attributes into my own cognitive behavior without abandoning my masculine attributes that I projected outward in my persona to gain social acceptance in the hierarchy of men @@ThoughtsonThinking
