    Ulfric Stormcloak nonsense! He got his rematch and Froch put him to sleep, the same would have happened in this fight if the ref wouldn't have stopped it. Groves did good, but he was gone in the 9th round. So if Froch knocked him out in the first fight it wouldn't have impacted his career!? Maybe he would have ended crippled. Btw Groves has quite a good career but he wasn't good enough to beat a champ of Frochs calibre.

    It was a poor stoppage so we'll never know if he could have beaten Froch in this fight. Groves didn't even go down and get a count. Howard Foster betted on a 9th round TKO for Froch. The fix was in.

    Ulfric Stormcloak He wasn't robbed, he was stopped. A few seconds too early, yes, but he was still gone and wouldn't have recovered. Froch had weathered the storm and was getting stringer, Groves had emptied his tank and was weakening. Look at what Froch did to Jermain Taylor in the final seconds of the twelfth. There were still several rounds left - that's what Groves would have been up against for the rest of the fight.

    @@Dangerous2099 You're deluded. Groves was stopped a few seconds early, he wasn't going to miraculously recover though, he was done, he always had poor stamina and a dodgy chin. Froch would keep going until he got him. Look at how he beat Jermain Taylor in the last seconds of the twelfth.

    One of the worst stoppages Iv ever seen. Grove got punished for fighting through the onslaught from Froch. Credit to Groves. I was there that night. It lead to the greatest domestic dust up at Wembley. But regarding this fight, it is hard to ignore the fact that Froch walked through EVERY punch Groves landed and got up from an epic right hand early doors. And Groves did win pretty much every round until that stage no question. But the minute Froch started landing I’m sorry but Groves was in trouble. The ref came in early but I think Froch’s brute strength would have ended it moments later regardless. Groves got hit plush on the chin 3 times before the stoppage and he huddled over and faced the floor. If it wasn’t over then, it was going to be anyway. The face of a fighter after a fight says everything. And given Groves was by far the better fighter until the end, they both looked pretty beat up. Shows how heavy handed Froch actually was

  • @bobshenix

    @bobshenix

    Yes I agree, Froch probably finishes the job in Round 9.... that can be true and the stoppage still considered a bloody awful one. Groves was clearly winning the fight on points, had yet to be seriously hurt or hit the canvas even once, was still capable of defending himself intelligently AND was still answering Froch with his own offense until the very moment Foster stopped the fight. I simply don't see ANY WAY WHATSOEVER that this stoppage can be justified given what the ref's job is supposed to be!!!

    I haven't seen this fight again since it happened, but watching it back now thinking about how great a fight it was. Not that it matters now, but Froch should have been docked at least 3 points in this fight. The fight was obviously stopped too early too. As Groves was still swinging punches during the stoppage. I think the docking of points to Froch might have had an adverse affect on him sometimes it gives the opponent more belief, and the docked fighter less hope. One thing I will say though is that Froch has a chin and a half on him. His fitness levels are insane too. Just a neutral fan.

    Ref should've let it go on - Groves was maybe 30 seconds max from being stopped legitimately. Maybe 15 seconds, actually. Best bit was how karma came for George after he'd said 'Are you going to cry, Carl?' in the build-up, only for someone to film him in the corridor after the fight where he was going 'I'm not a loser! I'm not a loser!' and literally crying.
