I’m a shoe designer. I can tell you that the signature last resort shoe being discussed is made in a style that often referred to as “whole-cut” meaning most of the shoe is made of one piece of material (if you follow the main panel there’s only one seam at the heel with no other breaks). The main reason for doing this traditionally is for a clean minimal aesthetic but I guess an added benefit in a skate shoe would be the less seams there are the less seams there are to come apart. Laid flat this piece looks like a big U shape. This type of shoe is expensive to make as you can cut less of these big U shapes from one piece and material, it’s cheaper to have a multi-panel design with many smaller pieces (like a Cariuma for example). I say this to say, just because the shoe has a minimal look, aka “the most basic shoe ever” doesn’t mean it is basic or not good value. I haven’t owned either and I’m not biased (but Cariuma is wack)

I’m not under the assumption that these companies are operating above their interest in making money but which companies we want to stick around does matter. I agree that cariumas do cater to a growing population of skaters and if they like it fine. But to stop caring about the details of what skateboarding should look and feel like through the brands we support is something I can’t back. Obsessing over minute details is how most of us got better and decided to keep skateboarding past most peoples quit point.

Yeah, honestly just wear whatever you want don’t base what brands you buy on what other people thinks cool, just get what you thinks cool, I bought Cariumas and stoped skating then once they got hate, they aren’t bad shoes I just thought they weren’t cool cause other people thought that

this core bla bla. no one really cares about whats "core" back in my days a lot of people were riding adidas sambas as skate shoes. skateboarding isnt what dyrdek and berra want you to think it is. go out. take your board. feel comfortable and shred. thats skateboarding. the skateboarding industry nowadays is flat out capitalistic cancer. you dont need all the fancy stuff. no one needs 140$ pants.

Man I’m so lucky that I’ve won a 1 dunk raffle and bought other 2 pairs fcfs. Dunks were so easy to get until Trav started wearing them :/

@@Damoforce better than sending them to ziumez, right? Seattle has one orange box shop that's still around. I am looking for mid or high skate shoes in 14s and very few good ones exist. The addidas mid has a leather upper, Wtf.

100% exactly what is happening with him. Homeless to now having a temporary place to stay. He’s going all out while he can to amass potential sponsorship money. Dude is pushing 40 with no real job and is not an actual skate team. He need those sponsors like a fresh 18 year old moving out the house to pursue skating career. Manipulating a girl 10 years younger than him I don’t have an answer for that. But I would say stay tuned. That shit will blow up sooner than later and we will get some excellent videos out of it from both of them

He glossed over Nike's garbage business practices or that they're capable of paying pros well, while in the same video saying it's important who you affiliate with. kind of hypocritical. So buying shoes made by a company that used literal children and sweatshops to make them is better than Cariuma because?

@@sk83r1217 ok what you need to understand is that there is no such thing as ethical (large scale) production. Also Saying that cariuma doesn’t use child labor isn’t a valid defense and allegations that nike uses child labor does not absolve cariuma of criticism. It is a logical fallacy to deflect criticism from cariuma because Nike did something similar literally decades ago. If anything the skateboarding industry should learn from nikes inorganic entry into the industry and recognize that cariuma is doing the same thing but even less organic. This isn’t about Nike vs cariuma, so please stop being willfully ignorant.
