Yeah all these skater who grew up in America don't really get how different it can be outside of the US. Not to hate on everyone but it's kinda elitist, a lot of us do not have access to all these great skateparks or street spots, give him some time and I bet he will be cracked outside of just skating flatground.
@173jaSon371
6 ай бұрын
@@DeNiruable Dude I grew up in coastal Massachusetts, a VERY wealthy area and there were only 2 or 3 skate parks within 35 minutes of me. The one close to me had 2 pre-fab 4 ft tall quarters that were narrow and had no transition, a crappy funbox with a rail, and 2 grind boxes. That's basically it. The ground was even rough at the skate park. There were 3 parks, but 1 got ripped up to literally build a parking lot in it's place. The indoor park 30 min away was 15$ for 3 hours and you would be waiting in line to hit a ramp. It wasn't until around when I graduated high school in 2012 where a couple plazas opened up about 45 min to 1 hour from me, before that I had NEVER seen a concrete bowl or halfpipe in my life aside from small, pre-fabricated ramps. And this is in a SUPER densely populated area of the US. Most people just do not have great parks near them
@DeNiruable
6 ай бұрын
@@173jaSon371 before I moved closer to a bigger city I had to drive ~1h 30 mins with a car to get to skatepark with rough ground and around 3 pre fab obstacles and one abomination that was impossible to skate. Unlike America driving a car is illegal before the age of 18 so I couldn't even skate there unless I found someone who went with me and that was maybe 3-4 times in like maybe 5 years. Also smooth concrete as flooring is pretty rare here, it's mostly rough paving stone or old asphalt. I mean I still skated but there were extremely limited opportunities.
I think there are skaters that have the talent but just lack the creativity to put down lines in a street part. Brandon Westgate said in an interview that when he goes out filming, his filmer (or coach?) is the one that’s guiding him, telling him what tricks to do and where to do them. Maybe that’s what Jaime needs?
@173jaSon371
6 ай бұрын
Westgate is also 50x the skater that Griffin will ever be, respectfully. Guy could ollie up shit that Jamie is skating down.
There were 4 or 5 clips in this where the skating and spot and filming came together really well and showcased Jamie's unique skating well. If he could film a part with a filmer / coach who could provide some more direction for him maybe he could make a compelling video part.

I Landed loads of them in the progressive, experimental, insane period of time known as the early 90s. From 91 to 93 skating got new tricks and got super technical. Flips in and out of ledge tricks. Late flips, shoves, front foot impossibles, Nollie backfoot impossibles, switch front foot imposibles, blah blah. But by 94 it settled down a bit, and there was a bit of a rejection of overly complicated skating. A lot of those tricks were dropped, almost seen as "last years tricks". For reference look at videos like New Deal, da deal is dead. Even just before that with New Deal 1281. Then look at a video from 94 or 95. Say, Eastern exposure, or Colour vid, or plan b second hand smoke. It became about power, style, going bigger but more simple. It was a bit annoying having a bag of tricks I had learnt now being "unfashionable". I loved impossibles and all its variation.

Gotta respect doing those tech flips. Even if it’s a bit sketch it’s still cool to even attempt it. Show me other parts where guys do those. And if he’s not going Mach 10 bro it’s really hard to control a trick that tech at that speed. I think some critique was justified but some was too critical.

See, this is why Milton Martinez will always be my favorite. The man literally does ollie, kickflips, and like, 180s, and that's it. But it's the context in which he does it, like 180 kickflip over a big ass rail into a switch hillbomb in traffic versus just 180 kickflip on flat. Or like, bombing a hill and then doing a mandatory ollie at 20 mph. Not the same as a flat ground ollie.
