Cargo Trailer to Camper Conversion - 1st Phase

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is the first phase of my cargo trailer to camper conversion. I took a stock cargo trailer, insulated it, ran electrical, added an RV vent fan, and put up a shiplap ceiling.
I'll be adding windows, solar, plumbing and so forth in coming videos.
I've never built anything like this before and I've never created a video for youtube, so please comment and let me know what you think and what you'd like to see!

    Nice work! A couple of ideas. Before adding insulation, rust proof the iron beams. Humidity builds up inside a trailer. Kinda amazing the factory paint the beams all the way. Also seal the aluminum seams from the inside so water can't get in. Something like Flex Seal works well. Lastly, add some silicone paint to the roof. Tropi-cool reflects UV. All the Best!

    John Stuart thank you for that intel. I just picked up all you suggested and still I can’t find the insulation panels that I should run with for my 7x16 trailers. Any suggestions?

    First video that make me feel I could do this so far, with an exception to the electricity. Great learning video to make conversion look simple. Thanks for sharing, will save in my notes to follow during my build that I am saving up for.

    My thoughts exactly! Except I found a trailer on Craigslist with most done at a better price than what it would be to do it myself. I’ve gotta figure out the bed and bathroom situation, but it’s definitely exciting! I had a class “C” RV and it was in the shop what felt like 8 months out of the year. Pretty sure this is the way to go!

    🙋🏼‍♀️hey there! Tnx for having filmed your process- Im just back tracking to your 1st video after seeing your shower build. My YT search for specifically that🚿, brought me to you. Last year I purchased a 7×16 nose tip cargo that is partially wired wth a basic bunk bed set up. A shower/toilet system is a must if I'm to finish this conversion :*) Soooo...I'm selling the 26ft parked seasonal trailer 😁

    Terrific music!!! I find overhead lighting to be irritating within a short time. Under-counter, under the toekick of the cabinetry is less obtrusive.

    Nice job, I'm in the process of converting an Interstate 6x10 load runner. I started with the insulation and now I'm wanting to put in an RV style door handle similar to yours. I have the same original door design as your model but I have some concerns about the tension the angled hinges put on the door since I can see the wall flex when I put force on it to get the door to close completely. Does yours have similar tension? Did you drill through the frame to to receive the bolt from the lock?

    We are also planning on converting our 7 x 14 trailer. I agree with a couple other comments about the music. Too irritating, what I want to hear is your thought process. Give reasons for your insulation choice, electrical design, etc... I am trying to learn from each video I watch..if I have to guess at what is being shown - it doesn't help.

    I like your recording format, can see what others dont record, so procise. I have watched a lot of videos. If I ever get started will use your video for reference the most for this portion at least. Question to avoid making hole in ceiling would you think the fan could be used on the side of the trailor? Sure scary to cut into ceiling.

  • @befreebuilds

    @befreebuilds

    Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it! It could be put on the side I guess, but most of them are designed for the ceiling. I'd imagine you'd have to do some work to seal it and support it differently though.

    My partner and I are going to be converting the same style trailer soon. Can I ask how deep you were able to make the kitchen cabinets? I have been worried about the space between the front wall and the door.. Also, were you able to insulate the floor?

  • @befreebuilds

    @befreebuilds

    3 жыл бұрын

    The cabinets depth varies quite a bit since the wall is curved, but I was trying to make them the standard depth (24.5 inches iirc). I didn't insulate the floor.

    Why didn't you alternate the ends of the shiplap? Instead of having 1 seam of butt joints in the center, stagger them across the entire ceiling. Stronger board to board, and most importantly.. not a visual break.
