Quick convert Cargo Trailer to Camper Conversion

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here is a walkthrough of the cargo trailer that we have converted into a camper. The Trailer itself is a Triton Vault Series VC612, which is a 12 foot long by 6 foot wide trailer, and it is 6 feet tall. The great thing about this trailer is that we can easily and quickly convert it back to being used as a cargo trailer. This allows us to get much more use out of the trailer, rather than only using it a few times a year when we camp in it. There are a lot of handy items I have used over the last few years in here, and I have links for most of them below.

    Next month I'm going to buy a 20 foot moving truck. I want to create a small 10 x 7 living space near the cab, and then I'll wall off the back half. It'll have 2 uses: during the day it'll be used for making short/local hauls in town for people for things like furniture; that will be an easy source of income each day; $100/Load. In the evening as a ministry option, the back area will easily get turned into a nice space to sleep in, so that a homeless person can stay warm and safe. I can either make them a meal, and provide them with a food, water, clothes, hygiene products, a Bible, the hammock & sleeping bag that they slept in, and $100 cash. I need to give a huge shout out to Josh who has a YT channel called: "ACTS INITIATIVE. This week I was really inspired by his amazing 24 part series called "Dead Church", that talks about the importance of not living above and beyond, but living to constantly help others who desperately in need. So this is why I'm excited to be moving out of a stick & brick next month.

    You mentioned redoing the bed folding brackets. Have you thought of using the conduit / bracket set up you have for the storage catch-all area above the bed? Those brackets locked open and you could still put canvas on there for storage when the bed is up if you wanted to use the canvas. Otherwise, it could be used without the canvas. Very nice, easy build! Great job!

  • @northwoodsengineered

    @northwoodsengineered

    Yeah I had though about finding a way to combine the two ideas. I had also thought about using canvas for the bed, like a cot, rather than a board. There’s so many different ways and not enough time! Thanks for the comments!

The one hardware item that I cannot find, is the brackets that you used for your removable counter for the front nose section. Really great. Thanks for posting. LOVE the hanging hardware. I'm planning a full time rig, and this opens up a whole new set of possibilities. Like becoming a sophisticated "bag person". Soft storage is more space efficient because there's no volume lost on the hard storage itself (wood, tupperware, whatever, and it's easier to move. The nose is an obvious place for kitchen. Are the beds 25" each? You only have 60" wide total. Minus 10" leaves only 50" for two beds.

    @northwoodsengineered

    It completely depends on the weather you will be using it in. We generally camp in the summertime where its not too hot so its usually not needed, but we camped in september this year in montana and it got below freezing and I was wishing we had insulation. It's on the list of things to add, just haven't gotten to it yet. So if you have the time/money i would do the ceiling first then the walls.

    Hi, thanks for this great video. Regarding your aluminum structures. You see to have joined them using angle brackets. I was wondering if you could detail this a bit more. Did you use a bolt and not through the width 1x1 tubing or did you drill through and tightned directly to the adjacent tubing wall. Thx

  • @northwoodsengineered

    @northwoodsengineered

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I just have some steel angle brackets that I got at the hardware store. I did not use a bolt, I used 5/8” self tapping screws to attach the brackets to each tube. They aren’t super strong right away, they more so Hold the tubes together, but once you put the wood on, it really strengthens it.

    Awesome build! Exactly what I plan to do this summer. I have watched a LOT of cargo trailer conversations and all go way farther than I want to. I want to be able to use my cargo trailer for cargo most of the time. Great work! Did you just bolt up the bed frames or did you weld them?

  • @shawzy17

    @shawzy17

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Yeah im surprised i dont see more people doing it like this, cause most people dont live in them year round so if you arent camping then you cant use it much. The beds are bolted. I just bought some cheap steel angle brackets from the hardware store, and there is one in each corner that allows two screws to go into each piece. Once you get those done, its still not that strong, but as soon as you screw the wood to it, it stiffens it up really well. I would have welded it if i had one for aluminum, but this was easy and has worked out well.
