Cargo Trailer Conversion: Insulation

In this episode we insulate the walls and the ceiling of the trailer and prepare for electrical wiring.
I'm still trying to decide on the best way to do these conversion videos so I'll be experimenting with some different styles moving forward. If you have any suggestions please let me know in the comments! Thanks!

You produce one of the most professional videos I've seen on KZread. Not a bunch of over-talking regarding things that don't apply to the video, you get straight to the point. The cinematography is great too. Thank you for your dedication to making good how-to's.

I just found your channel. I'm looking at converting a trailer so thanks for posting this. I'm about to take the walls off and was wondering if you have any tips for me. I know this video is old so I'm not sure you will even get this.

Hey Mike, I'd love to help, but without knowing how your walls are attached it would be hard for me to give any helpful advise, honestly. If they're attached with the same screw/nail hardware as mine- all I can say is to prepare yourself for lots of frustration and good ole' elbow grease lol! Thanks for checking out the channel- I'm hoping to start working on the trailer again soon and I'll post more updates as I do!

I noticed that your insulation was in little bundles. What size are they and where did you get them?

The boards themselves were (I believe) 4' x 24" which was perfect because my studs were 24" apart. So all we had to do was squeeze the foam boards in-between and they were nice and snug. We got them in packs from Lowe's/Home Depot pretty cheap. I definitely recommend them

So what's the difference in temperature?

Sorry, I realized we never came back with the results from this in a video like we said we would.. But with very similar conditions, the post-insulation temperature read out was roughly 22 degrees lower. Again, that's after the trailer has been in direct sunlight all day. After using the trailer during the hottest months, and now for a full month with temperatures in the low 30s- I'm finding that the insulation really shines when it comes to holding heat inside. The heater (just a little ceramic heater) only kicks on to catch up once an hour or so (at nights when it is really cold), and only stays on for 30-40 seconds. I have zero problems maintaining an inside temp of 68. It has to work a little harder in warm weather to cool down to that mark. Hope this was helpful!

@@benseabrook7655 yes it was. I'm doing a build after weather breaks. You said you have 1&1/2" ceiling and 1/2" walls and floor? Did you do the ramp and side door? Thanx

@@hawthorne7712 We originally planned to insulate the ramp but ultimately decide not to. I do think it would be a good idea, though, because I believe that is where a lot of cool air is lost in warmer weather.

Hey Hawthorne- If you haven't already finished your build you were planning, you might want to check out my new video about the trailer conversion. It's about my experience using the trailer as a full-time office for more than 6 months. I include some pretty valuable advice / do's and dont's for anyone thinking about doing a similar project. Thanks!
