Ngl, this feels like a serene beach town in a video game. Just simply changing the instrument of a song can have such a powerful effect on how it’s played.

You are so right, sounds like it could have come from eg Chrono Cross. (If you enjoy vgm and jazz, I recommend The Consouls - they’ve done a ton of brilliant covers.

I love this! Typically you only here people playing improv patterns on these tongue pans, good to hear a good familiar melody coming out of one! the sound of the drum is beautiful!

Theoretically you could play quite a lot of recognizable melodies, they just need to stay in one key and it probably works best with guitar parts that are played in a single position on the neck

Agreed that it’s nice to see an actual musician use it properly, however Most handpans don’t have that sort of range (eg only 9 notes). That particular version would have been out of the price range of most.

@@travelingmonkslife9560 I know. I actually found a complete diatonic scale drum from Kosmosky recently that sounded decent so i bought one... they said they are making a companion which will allow it to have 2-octave chromatic scale to play with. I'd rather spend enough time to learn to improve on these instead (I mean, it would basically be two drums that can cover all of the scales - the play patterns may be different, but I'd prefer to have the options rather than being constrained to a single scale... :) )

Whoah- from steel drums in the 70's (with their typically sour notes) to the higher-tech handpans (electronically tuned, so no more sour notes) to now this. This thing is ingenious - you can see that its tuning is just a matter of how many and how deep the saw cuts are in each tongue - brilliant! Fortunately, the strength of each note dies out quickly enough to keep the melody from getting too muddied by lingering notes, but maybe somebody could figure out how to add some control to that, as well (?)

I feel so unsure As I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor As the music dies, something in your eyes Calls to mind a silver screen And all its sad good-byes I'm never gonna dance again Guilty feet have got no rhythm Though it's easy to pretend I know you're not a fool I should've known better than to cheat a friend And waste the chance that I'd been given So I'm never gonna dance again The way I danced with you, oh Time can never mend The careless whispers of a good friend To the heart and mind Ignorance is kind There's no comfort in the truth Pain is all you'll find I'm never gonna dance again Guilty feet have got no rhythm Though it's easy to pretend I know you're not a fool I should've known better than to cheat a friend (should've known better, yeah) And waste the chance that I'd been given So I'm never gonna dance again The way I danced with you, oh Never without your love Tonight the music seems so loud I wish that we could lose this crowd Maybe it's better this way We'd hurt each other with the things we'd want to say We could have been so good together We could have lived this dance forever But now, who's gonna dance with me? Please stay And I'm never gonna dance again Guilty feet have got no rhythm Though it's easy to pretend I know you're not a fool I should've known better than to cheat a friend And waste the chance that I'd been given So I'm never gonna dance again The way I danced with you, oh Now that you're gone (Now that you're gone) Was what I did so wrong, so wrong That you had to leave me alone?

Its tough to find a good sounding drum that is also inexpensive. My favorite drums for a few hundred are kosmosky. They are excellent. But they are different too. Yw pulsar are more affordable than something like a rav vast depending on how many notes you choose. So I suppose it's all relative. I think pulsar is the best balance of price and quality personally.

I usually avoid videos of handpans and tounge drums doing covers of pop songs. I'd rather hear original music from these instruments. But, I'm going to make an exception with this one. It's well done and it's a song that I've always kind of liked, but hated the lyrics. I'd rather hear an instrumental version. I'm impressed.
