Career Changer at 47 | Claire Stringer

Claire Stringer is one of six St John Ambulance Western Australia volunteers who received fully-funded scholarships into APC's HLT51020 - Diploma of Emergency Health Care.
A St John volunteer since 2015, Claire operated under the title of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Loving the position, she shares in this video that 'it's more rewarding than my paid job'.
Realising she wanted to transition and make healthcare her full-time career, Claire was fortunate enough to be referred to the scholarship by a friend. Initially concerned about her age, her husband happily reminded her, "You're 47, you're not 100!" and she submitted her application.
According to studies*, approximately 30% of individuals change careers at one point in their professional lives. Whilst it can seem daunting, deciding to change careers has many positives. To begin, it offers you growth, more excitement and passion for your work, but also assists in leaving an industry that could be shrinking. As the Health Care and Social Assistance industry is Australia's largest employer, you're bound to have plenty of room for growth and career development within!*

Almost 12 months into her 24-month course, Claire reflects advising APC, "It's been fantastic. It's probably been one of the best things I've ever done".
