    I just want to add a comment or two about small circular knitting. I use the Chiaogoo shorties and love them. I don't love knitting with the 2" length needles. I do find that if I use the 2" for the left hand needle and a 3" for my right hand needle it is easier on my hands. Also, I always use a small needle for the left needle (I usually go down one size or sometimes two). It makes "pushing" the work around so much easier and you are only knitting with the right hand needle when you are knitting in the round. These two tips make knitting in small circumference so much easier on my hands, I can usually get through it with a smile on my face. I LOVE your Monday sweater and the color is perfect for you. I have yarn to start it if I can ever get my current sweater project off the needles.

    Excellent tip Brenda! I have done the small needle on magic loop before but honestly didn’t even think of it for knitting circular so that’s a great idea. Going to buy the shorties for my next project and give that a go.

    Joining the chorus in saying that I think the cardigan is stunning, but we all have our preferences..How about a white button down and jeans tomwear it with or whatevervyou already wear regularly…I just saw a recent episode with Pairs well with knitting, where she styled a jumper in different ways, maybe could inspire…? Good on you for prioritizing friendship hours, they are precious and so filling

    Hi, sorry to see your I-cord edge so tight. I also knotted the Turtle Dove Shawl, but didn't have this problem. But if I remember it right it had a different amount of stitches on either side. So I thought it was strange, but it worked. Maybe you have missed something in the instructions 😢😮. The shawl is beautiful, don't give up on it. ❤

  • @Goodknits_

    Thank you! I ended up being able to fix it. I just had an extra thread being carried up the side and once I dropped that the entire edge un-tightened and now it's back to normal so I can continue without any further changes 🤗

    Your Monday sweater looks great. Especially love the colour. But I do find the sleeves too short. Your cardigan No. 4 however looks amazing! It might not be your favourite colour but it looks very good on you. It also doesn't need to be fancy. If your pair it with blue jeans and a simple white t-shirt and white sneakers it's casual but stylish. The laddering next to the button band is basically invisible because of the texture and fluffy fabric. You are just hyper focused on the "mistakes". I hope you will love it in the end because I would call this a great success judging by what I can see.

    Totally agree on the sleeves. They are driving me crazy! I am going to do a proper wet block without drain and spin and see if that solves them. If not, I’ll go back in (maybe for next season 😂) and fix them. It’s too beautiful to not make it perfect. And I also agree on the cardigan. Only I will notice the mistakes and as I’ve worn it a bit the last 2 weeks I’m growing to appreciate it. My husband is completely in love with it

    I love my 9” shorties but I know they’re not for everyone! It might be worth trying the flexiflips (or similar) - they have a lot of the same benefits as DPNs but can be a bit easier on the hands/wrists… Hope you can find something that works well for you!

    I found the same issue with drain and spin loosing some length more than width. Definitely a fan of shorties except for socks. 3.0 mm size and up does not cause me any hand discomfort but the smaller mm needles do. I use 5" bamboo dpns for socks. Tried magic loop and shorties, but short bamboo dpns best for me

    I really love your cardigan! I think if you tried pairing it with a pair of jeans and a darker T-shirt, or top underneath it, you might like the color a little better on you. However, I think it’s absolutely beautiful and you could definitely make it a more casual piece For every day wear- also, it could be that you don’t care for the puffiness at the sleeve, that might be making it feel more fancy. You could always redo the cuffs without the severe decreases and make it a more straight sleeve - but I understand it’s probably the last thing you feel like doing after finishing this piece in 15 months lol!

    Your Monday sweater is beautiful on you. Have you tried using 2 sets of circular needles on your smaller diameter knitting. A couple of 24 inch cables, put half on each set then knit around. Kind of a combination of magic loop and dpns.

    I have had the same experience with blocking since I started putting my garments in the machine for a gentle spin cycle. My last 2 FOs barely changed size at all - in fact I ended up having to go back in and add length to the sleeves and body because I had knit to a length that accounted for some growth! Although it is nice to have them dry quickly I am leaning toward going back to towel rolling and blocking because I miss the transformation.

  • @Goodknits_

    @Goodknits_

    Glad it isn’t just me. I think I’m going to reblock this without the drain and spin and see if I can gain some sleeve length. May do the same in my salty days as well to see if it helps the fit. When it’s already a pretty oversized item the drain and spin is great, but if you really need the length I think it’s definitely hindering the blocking process

    Hi. I rarely comment either. But, I think your cardigan fits you well. It’s a pretty shape. Have you thought about trying to dye it a darker color? I know you paid a lot for the hand dyed mohair, but you probably won’t wear this sweater. A warm dark brown would be pretty. And a dark color would conceal the laddering next to the button band. I don’t know how the inner thread of the mohair would take stain, so you could test a sample. Our grandmothers used to dye things with strong tea or coffee. Less color choose but still nice.

    I’m so very sorry that the “ick factor” of unpleasant process has tainted the cardigan for you. I get it! But, as others have said, it really is a beautiful FO, and even more importantly fits well, so very flattering on your body. I truly think wearing it with every day items like jeans and plain white T, or simple dress would look elegant and very classy. If you still don’t like it out and about, hope you can at least wear over pjs for cozy at home time. Much love and thanks to you for all you share with us. 💜

    @@Goodknits_ that’s a great idea. Buttons on other embellishments can change the whole vibe of a project. I hope you find ones you fall in love with and make you forget how miserable it was to knit! I get it though-I’ve ended up hating otherwise lovely items due to hard feelings over the process. If you really can’t get to a point of enjoying it, it really is ok to just remove it from your home. Life’s too short to force something you truly don’t like. And I promise the gift recipient will be thrilled!

    What do you think about KFO cotton merino and Drops cotton merino if you compare them with each other? I think they have the opposite ratio of merino and cotton (70% wool and 30% cotton in Drops and the opposite in KFO).

  • @Goodknits_

    @Goodknits_

    4 ай бұрын

    So they are different weights but if you hold the KFO double you would get a similar DK weight. I would say my preference almost always would be KFO as I also don’t find it splits when knitting with it. I think the drops would be best compared to something like the WAK cotton and then I definitely prefer drops. Also the cost is just hard to beat, so if you want to save some money the drops yarn is a solid choice!
