Hi Angie ! I visited Carcassonne some years ago with my wife and children. There was medieval shows taking place between the two rampart walls of the city, with jousting and sword fighting in full armor : it was amazing ! Historically, the city started as a fortified roman settlement, so it's more than 2000 years old ! The fortifications were destroyed/modified/rebuilt countless times and nowadays you can still see the different periods showing through their distinctive architecture. The towers with almost flat roofs made of reddish tiles and rounded windows are the remnants of the roman fortifications. In the Nineteenth century, the Medieval City was in really bad shape and had been completely abandonned for a long time. It was to be demolished and the stones used for surrounding buildings and constructions. Only through the determination of a few people and a concrete preservation end reconstruction project by the architect Violet le Duc was the city not only saved from destruction but rebuilt, and each part was rebuilt in the style of its time of construction (with some errors and discrepencies here and there but better that than destrucion and oblivion of such an amazing testimony of our History !). The Count's Castle (Château Comtal) end the Basilica are really must sees : what you showed in the video was mainly the fortified city and not the Castle in itself ;) There are really lots of historical events and facts around this city : Google and Wikipedia are your friends ! And maybe you landlords if they are native of the region ;) Thanks for the video and enjoy your life here !

@@angiemuthoni My pleasure ;) and yes, if you have an occasion to watch one of these medieval shows, jump right into it ! There are many in France. In fact there are many medieval towns and villages that organize such events (markets, festivals, joust and swordfighting and so on). All the riders, knights and sword (or axe, or flail) fighters were in armor with their full heraldry and blasons on them and there were women among them, so you can definitely say that women could have been knights and stand their ground to men (obviously their fighting style would have been different but not inferior is what I mean ;) )

It's really interesting to (re)discover my own country through your eyes. I hope that I'll be able to come back to France and visit Carcassonne again.
