Maybe you had to pop off the original white cap then apply the new one.

no, these are made to stick on top, they just don't make them big enough. Had to do the same thing with my Z and G37. Kind of like the black eye liner Batman actors where under the cowel, I put a little dark 3m vinyl around the edge to hide the paint.
