Question. @ 9:52 Did you put release wax also on the hardened gelcoat when you added the 2nd layer of gelcoat for the bottom mold? If not? How come it did not stick together when you pulled the 2 molds from each other?

Its evident, if you dont apply wax release or other type of release, impossible demold!!

One more question. Do you wait for the epoxy gelcoat (the red stuff) to harden, and than start adding the new epoxy coat and glass / carbon?

I always wait to tacky texture in my gelcoat, no cured ok? And start the lamination with resin first you can check this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/pH-dr5hyl7bTp7g.html

Hola, no, el gelcoat lo aplico primero sin resina, una fina capa que nos dara el acabado del molde, y la razon del gelcoat ya te lo digo para un acabado mas fino, Las capas en los moldes depende del tipo de pieza y cuanto quieres que dure el molde, a mi me gustan los moldes ligeros y prefiero hacer repaticiones del modelo o master pero a veces la pieza obliga a hacer un molde mas pesado y robusto, realmente no hay un estandar de numero de capas o de lo que sea en los composites, lo ideal es aprender o saber que es cada cosa, resinas, fibras etc, cada material y sus características, sus prestaciones, que tipo de pieza qieres y como deseas fabricarla y en consecuencia el tipo de molde saldrá de todo este conocimiento.

Utilice mylar material con el que se reparan velas de windsurf pero vale cualquier plástico algo resistente. Y cinta doble cara. Si

Hey Virus. I have always wondered why you use carbon for mold building. Why not use much cheaper fiberglass matting? And when you use matting the bonds of the fabric break down when polyester contacts it. That way it can conform to all shapes. Just curious, Mike
